Octopus saving sessions

Yeah I’m not far outside a power up zone either! Might only be able to save a few pounds during a power up session though, but be good to get a free charge for the car 😂0

Do you have an Octopus-using friend on the other side of the border? Could be an excuse to pop over for a coffee and use their electricityArcherychick said:Yeah I’m not far outside a power up zone either! If there’s too much generation on sunny windy days, guess makes sense to give it away rather than pay the wind turbines to stop operating. So with more and more solar being fitted, could be a good chance of summer surplus sessions?masonic said:
That's a separate scheme. The ones that are part of OctoPlus are yet to materialise, but it would make sense to hold them outside of the winter months when saving sessions are de rigeur.MattMattMattUK said:
From what I understand they have happened, but only in some regions. I think the East of England region got a few in December.t0rt0ise said:
There was a suggestion by Octopus at the start that there might be some free electricity sessions with Octoplus. These haven't happened but I've kept the whatsapp channel open just in case. For normal saver sessions I've signed up for the ESO emails.MultiFuelBurner said:The two quickest ways of finding out a session are signing up for notifications from Loop on X as I have found they seem to get their saving session notification out early or even better the National Grid ESO DFS update emails which you can then delete and remove yourself from the WhatsApp status updates?PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -

Already happens on Agile. I often get paid to use electricity on sunny summer days.

Yes, I suspect like the saving sessions, where Agile users are already incentivised to cut usage through the normal tariff and don't see much benefit, free energy sessions are also likely to coincide with negative pricing and Agile users will see no additional benefit.Netexporter said:So with more and more solar being fitted, could be a good chance of summer surplus sessions?Already happens on Agile. I wonder if next week will see the start of saving sessions return...... it's got to be getting close now.
It seems like the right amount of time has passed, since the last session (19/12) and everything's generally back to normal after the Christmas and New Year slow downs of reduced energy consumption.
There's also a cold snap with potential snow on the way, which could increase energy demands - seems like a perfect opportunity for them to restart.0 -
I'm returning to the UK tomorrow after some travelling. The house in 'away mode' has been using about 5 kWh per day since the beginning of January, so my baseline will be almost impossible to improve on for a while! We could probably have reduced that a bit, but router, cameras, Sky box, some lights on a timer and other background usage like freezer, fridge and some central heating pump usage all added up.0

I reckon they'll allow a full 10 working days ahead of any savings sessions, otherwise they'd probably need to make code changes to remove the festive working days from the formula. So that would take us to Tuesday earliest I think.
With the freezing overnight temps next week I wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple0 -
The first one I have registered last Jan was 19th Jan 2023 so yep sounds about right.cm4ever said:I wonder if next week will see the start of saving sessions return...... it's got to be getting close now.

If they'd had any sessions in the first couple of weeks of January, they wouldn't be permitted to remove the festive working days from the baseline calculation. They have to use the most recent 10 weekdays with usage data available. This is probably why we haven't been getting test sessions in that period.Archerychick said:I reckon they'll allow a full 10 working days ahead of any savings sessions, otherwise they'd probably need to make code changes to remove the festive working days from the formula.
