Slightly off-topic but may be of interest: yesterday the residents of Alberta, Canada had an emergency alert to reduce load because they were at risk of needing rolling power cuts

Made me glad our savings sessions have, at worst, been to reduce the need for extra fossil fuels rather than because the grid was at risk of not being able to cope.  But it did also make me wonder how we'd cope with a more extreme winter (just a rhetorical musing, not necessarily a prompt for discussion).

I suspect if we hit -29c it will take more than a saving session to prevent power cuts.  The NFL wildcard game last night was played in temps of -20c which with windchill felt like -27c (there was a fairly large gentleman in the crowd who was topless), it was a bit of a bracer for Miami the away team. They sometimes talk about games at temps of around 0 but the default in the USA is to use the Fahrenheit scale (0 is approx -18c)
  • This seems to have taken a turn across the pond.

Yes that's normal for a test and not emergency session

Thought I’d read somewhere that upcoming sessions could be less
