Well done for heading home early ASB. I know she is your Mum but I think you made the right decision.
Thanks everyone for the advice about DS. Last time I told him to make more of a fuss about the flat he got a bit cross and said I have no idea what it's like, and it's true I don't. He is counting down the months until the tenancy ends I think. And thanks for the hug Fayolle it was welcome. You have been hugged back.
Oh and enjoy the gift cards Valli you deserve them.
Technically the paid stuff is done until Monday but I may quickly log in first thing tomorrow. I am looking forward to a few days off. Flying has been minimal.11 -
Oh, forgot to say that today was my last day ever at work (have been using up accrued leave the last couple of weeks or so) so I spent some time this afternoon decluttering all emails from my work account (and the deleted folder etc.). It was interesting how long it took! The number of emails that needed to be expunged was knocking on 100,000! But it's all done...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

My back is killing me.. I had to walk to post some blood tests.. and made Dot an opticians appointment and put it straight in my phone so I don't forget.. and then trekked off to pick up Boogs insulin.. now it hurts even more.. I just want to go lay in my bed.
Girls had 'worms and fingers' for dinner..

I thought today would be the last 'normal' day at the paid stuff for a while. It was far from it. Challenging doesn't come close to describing it. I was shattered before setting off home. Nightmare commute. Horrendous amount of traffic and couldn't see. I don't like driving in the dark anyway but I thought my eyes had deteriorated massively since last winter. Turns out I have a headlight bulb out. 🤦♀️.
So I'll be heading to the garage when it opens in the morning. Hopefully they can get it sorted quickly. If not I'll be having an impromptu day off I guess. Because no way am I driving in the dark again until its fixed.
Not sure if I've done any flying this evening. Written on two birthday cards and shoved a pizza in the oven. Does that count?

ASB.. sounds like she needs ice cream therapy..
Valli.. that sounds like a fair bit of progress for one day!
Round.. just stand in the middle of the office and scream... people look at you weird for a while but they treat you better and they hear you..lol..I haven't done a thing.. but I did buy pantomime tickets.. and I need to package up 2 or maybe 3 parcels... RxxI"m only a beginner here but in my book that definitely counts.Need to make up the bed but DH went for a lie down after supper and is still on there snoring peacefully. I may have to go in and move around noisily. In any event it is eye drop time again so sleeping beauty will have to awake.Just went to put something in the ice box in the fridge and the ice box door wouldn't close. I noticed it was badly iced up so got a knife and tried to prise the ice off only for a huge chunk to fly off and shatter all over the floor. Whilst looking for the icebergs I'd created I found two stray blueberries from a box I dropped on the kitchen floor earlier. Honestly, sometimes I think that I'm not safe to be let out on my own.11 -

Morning all
Grey, wet and murky here today - I have forgotten what the sun looks like! I’ve just unloaded the DW and brought a cuppa back to bed. Wondering if the builders will turn up today to fit my new front door, one is quite hunky so it would be nice to know and not get caught in my waterproof overalls smeared in mud as I usually am!Meeting friends later which will be lovely. DS will get his haircut and DD is going to a friends house.
I need to load the WM too. I also have a mop arriving today 😇
Take care all xx11 -
Morning all xx
CoG - thank you for your confirmation that what I'd done counts 😀 Also when I read your post I thought exactly what Valli said:'oh yes you're fitting right in' 😊
piggers - I have only once lost it so completely at work that I screamed. People still talk about it 🤭. I'm more of a quiet simmer then burst into tears. It used to be a rare occurrence. At the moment everyone is on tenterhooks thinking that one day I'll pick up my coat and bag and just walk out of the door. Apparently they need me to steer the ship through this car crash....mixed metaphor or what! Treat me right then!
Anyhoo I'm up, dressed, made my bed, etc. I've wrapped two presents, collected together all the bits for my DSil, fed the birds, put out the recycling, and wiped the headlight glasses on Feargal. He can see now...or he will when he has a new bulb.
Garage next. All topsy turvy because I don't know what they're going to say and my day hinges on that.
Have a good day

Morning all. Hope you've all slept well. I rolled over at about 4.00 and then didn't move again until 7.15. I let Rosie out, and now I'm enjoying my first cuppa
< i’ve had a busy 18 months with other stuff on my mind, actually.> Valli, you certainly have, so please don't beat yourself up x
Sorry you had to come back early from your "break", asb, but it's no good staying in a situation that's not doing your own MH any good. Enjoy your day with friends! x
Round, my fingers are crossed for Feargal x
/Rant alert/
I had a good day yesterday with my goddaughter W. Honestly, the homework that 9yo's are expected to do by themselves nowadays is more like what I had to do in the first year of secondary school! "Research the life of Stephen Hawking and make a fact file in the form of a poster/powerpoint/using the (very inadequate and unexciting) single-sided A4 template attached." Research? Yeah, sure - Mum K is also dealing with stubborn/fractious/attention-seeking 8yo; W isn't old enough to go 1.5 miles to the library on her own; W has a tablet but clearly had no idea of how to do simple research or where to look for appropriate websites - no list of recommendations from the teacher, so it even took me (ex-primary teacher, but my knowledge of what's available and suitable is 15y ood) quite a while to find something at W's level. The homework was set to be done over 2 weeks!!! by which time most children will have lost interest/impetus. K was educated in the Seychelles and Italy, her UK cultural knowledge is limited, and she honestly does not understand half of what the school expects of the children, so she had absolutely no idea where to start. W worked at it with me for a total of 6 hours yesterday and in the end produced a fact-file poster which she designed herself, choosing from a limited number of options that I suggested her, and adding her own embellishments. It's not brilliant but it meets the criteria. She enjoyed finding out about Stephen Hawking (they are reading one his children's books in class) and will retain the information, she now has some idea of how to research and order her ideas. but I think the biggest fun she had was using coloured paper, cutting smaller cards using the paper trimmer, and having someone to sit with her while she did it (I got on with my work at the other end of the desk). She did the final poster design and the writing up of her rough notes - it's her work, not mine. I can only hope that the teacher approves.
/Sorry. Rant over/
Today's list:
- sort out the savings account that I first applied for almost a fortnight ago
- do the 1st-of-the-month financial shuffle
- text a friend whose DD is in hospital
- ring a friend who's recovering from a hip replacement
- send at least 3 emails
- update the church website
- S&S kitchen and bathroom
- do at least 2xWM and TD, as DH's bedding is due to be changed and he will soon run out of clean underwear!
- see the NNDN who is clearing her late aunt's house about K possibly having some of the furniture
- set up my SAD lamp, ready for the winter mornings
- give Rosie her ant-flea treatment
- walk Rosie this afternoon, when the first part of the storm will have gone over
- poo-pick as I clear leaves off the lawn, though I expect that many more will come down overnight and tomorrow when the main storm hits us.
I hoovered round yesterday and the house - even the hotspots on the kitchen and DR table and my desk - is presentable. The door to DH's mancave stays firmly shut
Will catch up later. Hope everyone has a good day xxx
