I got a text from them saying they will let me know within 10 days. Agh! The suspense!!
Me too but by that stage they'd run a credit check and offered me an overdraft and credit card too,

I recently applied online for a standard HSBC current account.

I not only was accepted for the current acc. but they immediately offered me the Advance Account, then a credit card too at the same time.
So I now have the Advance current account, a Global Money Card (on the way), a HSBC balance transfer credit card (27mths at 0%) and I added a savings account.
Not sure why I looked a good customer to HSBC.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, I don’t even have a balance to transfer 😀

I've got visions of a high level HSBC management meeting in a couple of months where they are wondering why the take up of their offer has been so low...  :)

Call me a cynic but I think it's rather more likely that they'll be congratulating themselves over grabbing some cheap publicity with a market-leading headline offer but without actually have to pay it out very often....

Earlier this year I received switching incentives from both Halifax snd Lloyds, even though their switching t&c’s stated you can only qualify for one.
I opened a First Direct account almost a year ago, so i just wondered if anyone knows whether HSBC would also likely pay the incentive.

Highly unlikely as HSBC seem to have long memories when it comes to customers, so you might want to avoid an unnecessary hard search as they seem to give them if you so much as ask them the time. I’ve had five from them this year alone just from upgrading existing products.
Not just customers, I'm aware of an employment offer being withdrawn after their internal screening highlighted that the candidate had defaulted on an HSBC account over 15 years prior.

And no, it wasn't me, but HSBC never forgets!
What banks do ‘forget’ that you are aware of I’ve not heard of many to be honest. Barclays/HSBC keep history for years

The only ones I’ve heard are forgiving are Halifax/Lloyds

that said there’s no benefit really outside of the incentive bonus to get an advance account compared to other packaged accounts or premium it’s naff

I would suggest people try via branch and take pay slips with you. I once obtained an advanced account t without a single penny going to hsbc. I went into branch and said I wanted the account, they made an appointment and I returned with proof. The account was mine with a handshake with the manager. It’s my current main account I now use it.

Well maybe I'll test that theory about LBG someday, having had the 'persona non grata' letter from them several years back...

I just find it ironic, given my familiarity with the state of 'certain banks' data, that this is the one thing they do seem to be good at.

I received a ban from Lloyds bank back in 1995, when I was young and foolish.

Every year, once a year, from 2010 onwards I would apply for a bank account or a credit card ( just to test the ban more than anything) I would be instantly declined and would receive a letter stating “ due to information held on our records”. During these times I had a clean credit report / history, several well run bank accounts, and several credit cards with decent limits.

This year, as part of the switching deal I was accepted for the first time in nearly 3 decades, approved for a £500 overdraft ( that I won’t use) and a credit card with a £3k limit. I plan to keep a happy relationship with them now I am mature.

its entirely possible that any bank will have a long memory if you’ve done them wrong or cost them money but they may forgive you eventually.
    Best Regards,

    V

Same here! Never been declined for anything financial in my life and now annoyed that it will be on my record.
Are the results of an application shared with the CRAs beyond that a hard search was carried out (which would still be the case had you been accepted)?
    No.

Other institutions will be able to see a search had been carried out but not by whom or why.
