Are the results of an application shared with the CRAs beyond that a hard search was carried out (which would still be the case had you been accepted)?budgeter043 said:Same here! Never been declined for anything financial in my life and now annoyed that it will be on my record.

Don't believe the results are shared per se but from the absence or otherwise of an open HSBC current account being reported I guess it could be deduced.ColdIron said:

I recently managed to open an Advance account as I was considering moving away from Starling and getting the relative security of a High St Bank along with simplifying things by having everything in one place.. I also applied for an HSBC Credit card. Whilst I got both I have to say my impression of them as a bank isn't great - the entire process took over 8 weeks and they have left me with the impression that they are a very old school bank and everything is so slow.
I also did the same with Santander where everything was done and open in 24 hours. I am now questioning whether to close the HSBC accounts and either sticking with Starling or moving to Santander or, possibly NatWest.0 -
If you do decide to close the HSBC account then, if it were me, I’d use it to switch to another account… you may as well get some money from it.Kewsea said:I recently managed to open an Advance account as I was considering moving away from Starling and getting the relative security of a High St Bank along with simplifying things by having everything in one place.. But if it’s all set up what’s the problem? HSBC’s current account opening is slow but you don’t open current accounts with HSBC everyday. Opening its savings accounts is a lot quicker and I don’t remember the GMA account taking long to setup either.Kewsea said:I recently managed to open an Advance account as I was considering moving away from Starling and getting the relative security of a High St Bank along with simplifying things by having everything in one place.. Like others on here I applied for HSBC Advance account and was instantly rejected...although I was eligible for their other accounts. It seems it not so simple to open this account as you suggest.2

There isn't a 'problem' as such - apart from it's just not a bank I like. Not that I am in love with any of them but I think there always needs to be a modicum of being 'happy' with your bank. The application process itself was just too slow for 2023 - all about impression management. But if it’s all set up what’s the problem? That said, I have probably been spoiled from being with Starling for 4 years - they are just quick at everything, for me at least.0 -
Me too but by that stage they'd run a credit check and offered me an overdraft and credit card too,phil7445 said:I got a text from them saying they will let me know within 10 days. Agh! The suspense!!0 -
Well what can you say about HSBC ... old fashioned, exclusive, pretentious and slow ...
... all of the above and more.
I used to have a current account with them and in order to open that account I had to make an appointment to visit the bank and be interviewed ... 5 years ago.1
