I think it was only to offer me the covid/and or flu vaccine though and I get those anyway. I didn't know you could register with the council as a carer. What sort of self-care grants might they offer? Is it possible to do multi-quote on here? I don't want to spam the thread by posting separate replies to several people as I have been doing.
Not difficult.. just life.. some days are more challenging than others shall we say. lol
As a carer registered with the GP you should get an annual wellness check to make sure you are looking after yourself because we never prioritise our own needs. There should be a form to download on your surgerys website or you can ask about it next time you go in. They will sometimes offer prebookable appointments at more convenient times such as when the person you care for is at respite or you can have another carer step in.
The council stuff varies.. here there are grants of around £200 but this is as much as £500 in some places.. to spend on yourself, respite, spa days, annual bus pass.. whatever you like. You can also get a bus card so you get reduced fares. There is also the carers card which usually requires an assessment with a disability social worker and you get a carers card giving you discounts off local shops here. It also has details of the person you care for so if you are involved in an emergency, care can be arranged for the person you care for so you don't have to worry about them as much.. so it's definitely worth looking into. If you go on your local councils website and search disability grants it should take you to a relevant page. This is not the same as having a social worker or anything at all related to the safeguarding team.. they come in, ask what you need, what support would look like for you and help put things in place or you odn't have to have anything else other than the carers card. Such as help with shpping if you have someone in a wheelchair and a trolley.. it's hard to manage.. they can get someone to come help you.. or filling out paperwork or local support groups for example.. it is worth looking into, you can always say it is not for you and drop it.
re the quotes... Just hit the quote button before replying to the next post.. you can also delete the parts not relevant to what you're quoting.. or you can type @ in your post followed by the persons name @Cloth_of_Gold (like so) and reply to everyone at once no quotes necessary. we all read everything anyway when we have time and we get a notification when tagged so can look for the post..

Hi all
Just catching up, work has been stupidly busy. CofG you are very very welcome here but if we talk about personal stuff that you don't want to hear just stick your fingers in your ears. And if I say ladies I am including you. I have been a carer too BTW, a lot of us here have complicated lives!Round have you been OK since you were a bit fainty on Monday? Could it have been a bit of an anxiety thing? That has happened to me more than once.
All clean washing put away. Hoovered and mopped floors. Got a lovely message from my brother who I swear is psychic, he seems to know when I am fed up. Pj's on and feet up now x9 -
Evening all.
A belated welcome to CofG - it's good to have you with us. Sorry I missed you off my last post; this week my brain is quite definitely not functioning as well as it should. I am probably overtired.
Another busy but productive day today:
- did a bit of filing and clearing of rubbish from my desk
- cleaned all through downstairs, with a bit of help from DH: he hoovered 2 rooms while I did the rest. I forgot to mop the kitchen floor (see comment about brain above) so that is on tomorrow's list.
- did WMx1/2 (all the cleaning cloths)
- somehow remembered to text the plumber about the boiler service and the leaking loo (clean water!). He will come asap, but I've told him it's not urgent.
- DH reminded me to message the friends with whom we're having lunch tomorrow, so I remembered to do that too.
- the leftover peppers/onion/gravy from last night's sausage casserole made an excellent soup for lunch.
- DH went out to a funeral just as J the gardener arrived. I decided that the watery sunshine was good enough reason to plant up the patio pots with all the bulbs and winter bedding that I bought back in September - do you recall me saying that I was going to plant them immediately?!?!? They are now doneI also swept the decking and the back yard, and potted up a fuchsia and a pelargonium to overwinter somewhere a bit more sheltered. Meanwhile J mowed the lawn, dug out weeds from the borders and moved a gorgeous red Virginia creeper which we were likely to lose if the NNDN's fence is ever replaced.
- took Rosie for her walk, half the usual route down the lane off lead, and then a detour to the shops on the lead to post a package which needed to catch this afternoon's collection; for a change, we carried on home along the roads. She missed 2 cats!
- tea was a curry made mainly from veg leftovers and chickpeas, but it was not one of my best. DH is in a mood, but perhaps that's because he didn't get a nap this afternoon (neither did I).
I shall now go and watch Kirstie and Phil and be utterly unimpressed by the £500K houses (or whatever price range they're picking today). How the other half lives, eh?
Hugs and hot chocolate to all in need xxx

Soappie.. that looks fun... does it not lash suds everywhere? I'm needing something for the bathroom ceiling.. I have a scrubber on a stick but my neck cannot sustain the motion needed so it is about 1/4 scrubbed and 3/4 ick. I don't want to end up like the stay puft marchmallow man!
Everyone fed.. and in bed.. ish... Dot is throwing a owbbler because the other 2 are off school tomorrow and she has to go.. there is no way I am getting her in on friday with 3 off, not a chance!
Pack ups done.

I'm over 60 so already have a bus pass, well an over 60s Oyster card to be precise. I didn't know whether to be pleased or fed-up when I qualified.Probably like most people, when I think of someone my age I'm definitely not anything like that.
Re the quotes, I use a forum on another site and they do multi-quotes in a different way so wasn't sure how it was done here. They use the @ to tag people though so was familiar with that, and deleting text.Since posting earlier I've also bleached the kitchen sink and washing-up pad and wrapped a birthday present. I out some more clothes in the washer/dryer to tumble dry and accidentally programmed it to wash again and didn't notice until the water was in. Arghhhhh!

But, there was one thing about your reply that I don't understand. You said:
"I also get them to iron the duvet cover"
I have never heard of this "ironing a duvet cover" phenomenon....Could you please explain?Ha ha. I really like getting into bed with a nice wrinkle-free duvet but I can't be bothered to do it myself, and it's not really practical anyway on a domestic ironing board. My mother used to iron everything - socks, underwear, tea towels - but I certainly don't do any of those.I wonder if you, or anyone else, has advice on stain removal. I bought a SH cotton damask tablecloth on Ebay. I don't know how old it is but it must be pre-1971 as it still had the price ticket on - 23 shillings and 11 pence.I suspect it's from the 1960s but it has obviously never been used, hence the ticket still being attached. It had some brown marks at the edge and I sent it to the laundry with my shirts this week but the stains haven't come out. It's only a smallish area at one edge so they're not very obvious but I'd quite like to get rid of them. I don't know what they are but I wondered if I washed it with a sachet of Dr Beckmann's Glow White it might do the trick. Anyone got any thoughts please?

@Pigpen - nope it doesn't lash suds everywhere because I use a standard non-sud making floor cleaner like this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=tesco+floor+cleaner&oq=tesco+floor+cleaner&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCQgAEEUYORiABDIHCAEQABiABDIHCAIQABiABDIICAMQABgWGB4yCAgEEAAYFhgeMggIBRAAGBYYHjIICAYQABgWGB4yCAgHEAAYFhgeMggICBAAGBYYHjIICAkQABgWGB7SAQg0MDQzajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#vhid=MrLgbQU8Zv-wHM&vssid=l
I also use it to clean the bath...
With the bath I just spray stuff on it (limescale and grime type mix) run the hot tap to add a bit of water for extra lube and just sit there on a chair moving the scrubber up and down and around for a few minutes as it spins it's stuff and cleans away. Then rinse off with the shower head above the bath.
Kitchen floor the same - you don't need loads of water, just enough to dilute the detergent and let it scrub away away as you follow on with either a microfibre cloth or some kitchen towel... It really is a game-changer
I am the leading lady in the movie of my life
