Exasperated by the youngest who has no concept of money due to their learning disability/mental health issues. Conversation just now. "I need you to get up as we need to go to the PO to claim the £140 the council has given you, as its the last day tomorrow". Youngest " I can't be bothered, not getting up, don't need it". Me" OK turn off your electric blanket, phone charger etc as that is what the money is for to help towards fuel costs". Apparently that will get them up in the next hour. Deep breath, pause and release.
Made granola, used up half a bag of almonds would have prefered walnuts but that's what's in.
Called at the book swap hut and picked up 10 books. None in genre I prefer but willing to try something new. Weather is damp rather the dry as forecast so washing is not going out.

Frugalness for today
1. Mum provided homemade Veggie pie when she came for tea😋
2. Youngest got up and claimed money from PO, they are banking half and the other half is going to our fuel bill.
3.10 second hand books 📚(free) picked up.
4. Hoover that we thought was broken is now working, thanks to a wire coat hanger is fixed. Will pass onto mum whose hoover has just died.
5. No 💷 spent.
6. Soap is lasting longer after a put rubber bands on the soap dish. Stops it sitting and disintegrating into a puddle of gloop.
7. Made granola
Grateful for
1. Ys sausages for breakfast
2. PhD applications are in
3. Drugs are kicking in.

Need a 😡It's disturbing how somebody's incompetence can have a massive effect on another person's life. Luckily youngest passed phone over and I strongly worded that they had in fact got it wrong and to check their facts. Suffice to say an admin worker was blamed for not attaching vital info to youngest file. Profuse apologies ensued and youngest is now on the priority list.

Sent the £70 the youngest gave me towards the fuel bill today, octopods let you make a one off payment. At least I won't spend it on something else. Used fuel app to check local prices before I fuelled up.
And we're off to eldest uni city to drop them off.

Happy new year and educating kids about a budget argh ..
My teenage niece proclaimed she hates a budget whilst her xmas list this year was about £2k+ worth of stuff ... I am doing my best to instill some knowledge there so she doesnt have to learn by making big mistakes as most of us do. Its a process!
The PhD sounds interesting - quite like to do one but w/out doing a masters which I gather is possible but not taken time out to work out how.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks ladywithaplan and beanielou for dropping by.
Eldest safely dropped off after we called at the chip shop DH and family always go to when they go up the motorway. They were delicious but were so expensive. It has been almost 2 years since I last went and will probably be another 2 before I will be convinced to go again. £47.22 for 4 of us, I only had chips and mushy peas and tap water. I hadn't budgeted that much, luckily the food bill was low this week. Is £47.22 expensive?
Frugalness (😂)
1. Used petrol app to get best price
2. Made a one off payment to octopods (£70)
Grateful for
1. Hardly no traffic on the roads between here and uni city
2. Youngest pillow punched their anxiety into touch and came with us tonight
3. Spending the eldest, last evening with us together as a family
