I’ve got an iPhone 15 Pro Max which I’ve now had 3 weeks. However I generally replace my phones on a cycle of 4 to 5 years and true to form my previous phone was an iPhone XS.

I fully expect I’ll have this one for the same amount of time too unless it breaks or a new phone is released with a “must have” feature.

I'm currently on my third 4G non-smartphone, which is a year old Nokia clamshell job after the Star Trek communicator.  I use What's App because various friends like it, but have no interest in the other things smartphones can do and have no wish to carry something the weight of half a house brick in my handbag.  A mobile phone sized mobile phone is much better at being a mobile phone than a pub ashtray sized mobile phone.  I digress.  Most of my telephone calls are made on a landline, anyway.

I’m on a Samsung S9 that I purchased refurbished in August 2019 - so over 4 years now and the model itself is 5 and a half. It was replaced under warranty just before COVID hit but the (lack of) battery life is starting to annoy me. I liked the look of the S21/S22 but I hear the battery wasn’t the best on these from the get go, so I’m not sure what to do. I’d like a dual sim model next, which rules out reverting to iPhone.

Wanting a smaller phone seems to restrict you to a premium model these days.
  • I've just changed my 3-year old iPhone but Hubby is still using his non-smart JCB Sitemaster after 12 years or more.

main phone is a Huawei Y6 2018, which was refurbished, and still serves its purpose. backup phone is a LG Nexus 4, over 10 years old, and also refurbished when bought. Could afford a top of the line one, but in all honesty, cannot think of a single reason why I would need one?
  • I bought mine in late 2019
  • I can't see an edit button so will add to my last comment. It's a Samsung A10

My current phone is a Fairphone 3, just over 4 years old and still going strong. Self-repaired once by taking it apart and putting it back together again recently, using the screwdriver they provided in the box. Still receiving updates and battery still fine, doesn't appear to be slowing down at all. Really hoping it will last for ages still. Fairphone are committed to getting hardware to last as long as possible. They managed to get software and security updates to the Fairphone 2, a 2015 phone, right up to March 2023. No other 2015 phones with the same chip managed to get Android 10 to run (or couldn't be bothered to), so if anyone can get more out life of my phone, Fairphone can.

My previous phone was the wonderful Nokia 1280 - a bargain monochrome phone which was my main phone from 2010 to 2019. Still use it as my backup - everything works as well as it ever did. It's been dropped, thrown down the stairs, kicked onto the road (by mistake), it just refuses to break. I reckon it's only going to the the 2G switch off that will kill it in the end.

I tend to keep my phones about three-four years. My current one is one year old iPhone 14 as I gave my last one (12) to my mum as her's broke. It will be the last iPhone I buy due to finances the expense can no longer be justified. (I buy the headset)

Thanks for all the replies. I'd love to see any photos of particularly old handsets too if you have them.
    I still use a phone I bought in 2001 on occasion. It’s a Nokia 8310.
