Cashback from Barclays blue?

    How did you solve this problem?
    Did a bank account switch to get the free money and specifically chose Barclays to get cashback in run up to Christmas but every time I try to sign up to cashback I get the same error message as the one above.
    Tried the chat function but as good as useless.

    In my specific case it was because my debit card was frozen - unfreeze, worked.

    It's a very generic message, could be many reasons for it appearing.

    I have had various error messages from the Barclays App but re-installing seems to have helped clear most of them.
    But I kept getting the above error message when trying to sign up to cashback.
    Using the chat function then 30 minutes on the phone to customer support was no help, but I called into a Barclays branch today with my phone and card and got it solved. 
    The helpful Barclays lady didn't initially know what was causing the problem, but after logging into my account on her system (I needed to give permission via the app), she noticed that my email was not set as my 'default email'. She confirmed that my email was in there already but the system had not labelled it as the default email.
    Once amended the app let me register for cashback immediately and I received an email welcoming me to the scheme.
    Clearly the Barclays systems have several faults, and this will be only one of the reasons it might not be working,  but if you phone up or call in to a branch make sure they check the system has your email set as your 'default email'.
    What they do with a non-default email, I have no idea!

         
  • Does anyone know whether topping up our octopus utility account works with the cashback? We do have a very low direct debit because I have been using the Chase 1% cashback to top up, but of course 5% would be much better.

    I haven't tried it as my preferred option is NS&I, but I would be very surprised if Octopus Energy did not qualify. It's easy enough to try it with a small amount initially, and please report back your findings.
  • Thanks, I will report. But promising if NS&I works. Well if I understood the cashback correctly it's tied to calendar months and I just got my account very recently. So I tried with £200 payment to octopus hoping i'll get the £10 cashback for November and can then do it again in December  - or try something else if that failed.

    Yes, it's per calendar month. I should think a payment made as late as Tuesday 28th is likely to clear and qualify for November, so you should be fine.

    Just logged in to Barclays, and seen the following message:-

    Personal: Your Cashback Rewards

    We've accidently paid your cashback into your bank account twice - we're sorry about this.
    As this is our mistake we'll be leaving the extra cashback payment in your account for you to use.

  • I'm still waiting for my cashback to update from the 14th November. Perhaps cashback tracking was paused whilst Barclays investigated the duplicate payouts for some.

    Same here. Mine actually says it last updated on the 21st but I haven’t received my 5% cashback on transactions from weeks ago now.
