DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Baileys_Babe said:At least your parents bought you a book they thought you would like, but how funny 🤣 well done on not spoiling it for them.I started bottoming the boys room yesterday and managed to sort the book shelf in their room. And around their beds. Still lots to do BUT we went round to the neighbours yesterday for a drink and it turned into a very late night. So everyone is feeling a bit worse for wear today, just very tired. So I might have to put a pause on it until tomorrow.I now have another big bag of kids books and once we’ve sorted through the ones that have sentimental value then I’ll have to figure out how to get rid of the rest.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I spent the day cleaning and sorting, then we went for a family walk and down to the allotment to put together a list of jobs.
Main things to sort are:
1. Prune the cherry tree, apple tree, quince, gooseberry, red current bushes.
2. De-weed particularly the areas we couldn't last year because of the bees.
3. Put down some new weed membrane on the paths.
4. Screw the beds back together that are falling apart.
5. Cover over the bits we aren't ready to use yet.
Seems like enough to keep us going.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

In the interest of making 2024 a productive year, I finished off the boys room today with a final decluttering of their clothes and attaching of hooks to the back of their door.
Then I went through the spare room to reorganise it. I think I have a couple of months worth of stuff to list and sell - I only do it in small amounts otherwise I find it a bit all consuming and overwhelming. I’m hoping I might get another £100 or maybe £200 if I’m lucky. And I’ll have a whole lot more space.I’ve also listed some stuff on the school uniform swap site I help run. I’ve got rid of 6 jumpers pending collection. There’s more to go (hopefully). And we have someone collecting the last of the dog crates next week.I’ve made a pile of stuff to go to the tip - yay. And we have a fridge freezer that we need to go as well. We had originally donated it to a local rugby club but they never came for it despite saying they would a couple of times. Now it’s been outside too long and has gone all rusty looking.Hoping to make a start on cleaning and sorting my room tomorrow.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

4/6 NSDs so far this month. Wonder how long that keeps up. Big shop tomorrow so it will be 4/7 at that point.23 pairs of school trousers sold in 7 bundles. 9 school jumpers given away. It’s basically 1.75 carrier bags full of clothes that have left my house! Yay.
Not looking forward to returning to work on Monday, but it’s a 4 day week then I’m at the hairdressers on Friday. She’s also a friend so always a good catch up to be had.
Looking forward to checking my payslip. I know what I took home but not sure whether all my overtime was included or if I still have some to look forward to this month.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

9/12 NSD so far. But I bought lunch today and I went to the hairdressers, so it’s been spendy for me.Feeling tired today, think jumping back on the treadmill this week has caught up with me. Ive also managed to pull a muscle in my neck.I need to figure out how to go about strengthening my body I think. Mainly my upper body, I’m incredibly, pathetically weak.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

So the car went in for it's MOT and cost just short of £400 to fix. The breakdown renewal was due so I've sorted that and it's gone from the quote was for £242.98. So I've been looking around and the AA have an offer on, so I've one with them for £135, but with cashback it should cost £80.50.
I'll take that.
Sold two pairs of walking trousers I've had on vinted for quite a while, so I'll parcel them up today ready to go tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I've hurt my neck/shoulder, so I'm in quite a bit of pain and not as productive as I would like to be this weekend, but there isn't much I can do about that. I am in only in work 3 days this week however, so hoping I can get some stuff done then. I'll go through and list more stuff to sell, might take some stuff to the tip and will hopefully will sort the pumpkins so they are ready for turning into pies.
I would have liked to go down to the allotment, but the weathers going to be too frosty to reasonably have any expectation that I will achieve anything. So I'll leave that alone for this week.
I'm starting to get a bit anxious as DS1's DLA renewal is due soon. We will really need to rely on that money once he's in high school as he's not an independent traveler and there's no school transport that comes via our house. He'd never cope on public transport in rush hour, it's bad enough when it's quiet and I'm sat with him. It will afford me to stay at work part time so that I can do drop offs/pick ups, put DS2 into school club additional hours if needed. I can't claim carers because I work and earn too much.
We also use it to pay for his swimming lessons - they have private 1:2 lessons, so if it goes it's going to make maintaining that quite difficult. But swimming is something he really loves doing and it helps to regulate him.
I'm going to try not to worry about it for now. I think we'd have support from school anyway as they are noticing an increase in his needs this year. But if you've ever had to deal with DLA and the dreaded brown envelope, you'll understand my anxiety.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24
