@C_J
Is Mr C_J eligible for attendance allowance? If he is then there is a fast track application process and this might get you a bit of ££ so you can enjoy your retirement with a few less worries.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Adding to the sixties theme....the chazzer I was in this afternoon was playing sixties music so I was inclined to stay a little longer and enjoy the tunes!No man is worth crawling on this earth.

@Brie - thanks for the suggestion. I think if it were a matter of simply completing forms and sending proof of medical condition he would agree to letting me handle the admin for him on that, but if the process involves being independently interviewed or examined he wouldn't want to know. He's in a pretty low place right now. But thank you so much for thinking of this.
There is of course niggling worry that I might be financially worse off when living on just my occupational pension, but for the past year in preparation for early retirement I have been living on that exact pension amount and saving the rest of my salary each month, and it's been absolutely fineIt's just an adjustment in mindset from being a saver to being a careful spender that's needed, I think.

Being thrifty, I took advantage yesterday of our local big Tesco selling off their leftover electric blankets. A double Silentnight one was £12.50, a single, if you wanted it, was £10. Tucked away under the bed for the cold nights ahead (probably next month with the weird weather we've had this year).

I'm not over 60, but I have been reading along. My brother said my mother applied for Attendance Allowance and I think she got rejected at first, but then her GP sent a very informative letter and she got it. It will be very helpful to her. I have no idea why you have to jump through hoops to get what you are entitled to. My husband has to go to a tribunal to claim PIP as he was rejected. He got a supporting letter from his GP too.5

Belated Birthday Greetings to you @Brambling.
Two weeks on Sunday I will be 60.
Sorry I haven't been posting much. My mother in law passed away on the 12th April, after a short illness. She got to the grand old age of 91 .
Wishing anyone else who is 60 this month a very happy Birthday.I am a Senior Ambassador on the Competitions Time Board and the Old Style MoneySaving Board.
