Evening all, where has today gone?  Been out most of the afternoon with my friend.  Took her dogs to the groomers, had lunch in Spoons, mooched around the shops.  Drove to the smaller shopping area as there are different shops there to the town's High Street by which time it as time to go and pick the dogs up.  Finally got home about 4.30pm.

DH has booked a day trip to France for Tuesday (booze cruise, LOL!).  Looking forward to that as not been over since the summer.  Will be eating out again but no idea where or what I'll have!

    Today's food:

    B - porridge, fruit - HEB; S; F
L - gammon steak, egg, Mediterranean salad, peas, flat mushroom, tomato - P; S; F; syns?
    D - salmon, potatoes, peppers, green beans - P; S; F

    HEA - milk
    HEB - porridge
Syns - oil in Mediterranean salad 3?  couple of G&Ts 6

Hope you've all had a good day.

OMG took porridge sachet and microwavable vented pot to work but it exploded so spent the first 20 minutes of my day cleaning the communal MW - not a great start. Ended up with a croissant from the canteen!

Other food on plan. Undecided whether to WI tomorrow or leave another week. I'm in target range but want to leave it as long as possible. We are eating lunch tomorrow at Spoons so will have a JP or similar and I'm driving so no alcohol for me (going to panto). Have also just finished a 3-week marathon of TOTM which was completely depressing!

You had a good haul at CS @bubbs - I now qualify but none anywhere near me!
Well done on a tiny gain @MrsPorridge x
Booze cruise - haven't done one in years @joedenise - enjoy yourselves!

Can thoroughly recommend Wonka not least for the chiselled good looks of TC who I would gladly moon over all day (yes I realise he's 27, it was pointed out to me by DD 22!).

    Have a good evening all.

That's a tiny gain @MrsPorridge. You obviously reined back well after last weekend. Well done. 👍

    OMG! Exploding porridge @Coxy11! 🤣

If you're sure you are well in target you could go to WI then you'll have 8 weeks to get over Christmas and New Year goodies. Obviously, next week would give you longer.

I decided to go to WI early in the month because I always have more events leading up to Christmas than over the holidays. We've had 3 lunches this week!

Today's was very enjoyable. We met up with friends near Farnham in a (new to us) country pub that offered their usual menus as well as festive. DH and I shared a baked Camembert starter then I had salmon. It was meant to be on a bed of roasted seasonal veg but was actually leaves with a few cubes of parsnip and carrot mixed in. 🤔 Was delicious anyway and light. Syns obviously in the cheese and toasted baguette slices to dip in plus a gin aperitif and shared bottle of wine. I don't mind using syns for things I enjoy so all good. 👍

Back on plan tomorrow. I haven't done my weekly shop today as decided to manage with what I have in for the weekend if I can then a small shop for a few days, taking advantage of veg wars, and another at the end of the week for Christmas. That's the plan anyway.

Our schools finished  today @Longwalker so matinees will be busy next week around here. Hope you get to enjoy the cinema.

Hope you have a lovely time on your night out @beanielou. Probably a wee gain coming up for you. 😉

We're going on Tuesday @bubbs.  Looking forward to it!  It'll be a booze cruise for us and we'll pick up baccy for DD1 and her partner as they both still smoke.  DH and I gave up back in 2010 and DD2 gave up about 3 years ago and is now vaping occasionally.  Have to say I feel a bit guilty they both probably started because we both smoked when they were growing up but like slimming we can't do anything about the past over the future.

Sounds like a good trip to the CS for the refuge even if you didn't get much for yourself.

I'm so glad I'm not a crisp person!  I can eat 1 or 2 plain crisps but that's about my lot!

I'm so envious of your booze cruise @joedenise. We haven't been to France since Covid. We had thought of going this autumn but the weeks we had free it just tipped down with rain so we put it off. We'd planned to go to the 'new' Louvre near Lens and the memorial ring as last time we tried it was closed because of icy paths. ☹️

I'll be interested in the booze prices and any other shopping too. We always stocked up on the tins of duck confit. 😋 I have duck breasts in the freezer planned for NYE. I've never cooked duck from scratch and I'm scared I'll mess it up. Need to pick your brains. 🤔🤣

@maman - have to say I've no idea about roasting a whole duck but will definitely be giving it a go for New Year.  Usually I just cook breasts - will cook the whole one according to the instructions on the packaging!

Will get back to you on the prices re wine in France!
  • @joedenise , got to love a bit of duck. Not cooked it for years though. The way I did it, was to bring it to room temp the night before ( this was in a non central heated flat so a cool kitchen ) and stab it all over with a fork/skewer so the fat started to ooze. Kept "drying" it off with a bit of kitchen paper, the drier the skin, the crispier it becomes. You need a bit of space in the oven cos you need a pretty high trivet in the roasting tin to keep the bird clear of the fat thats going to come out, and its lots. During cooking keep draining the fat.  Im pretty certain I used to follow Delias Duck in Orange Sauce recipe ( was a long time ago ) There's not a lot of meat on a duck which is why I dont do it any more, affordable for two but gets expensive when cooking for more. But absolutely delicious and of course the fat makes the best ever roasties . Lucky you for the booze cruise, I remember doing those back in the day when we lived in London, fag cruises for us as well. Back then it wasnt so socially unacceptable to smoke. Its strange - but good - that the bar staff today have never known pubs that were thick with smoke. How we used to stink after a night out

@coxy11, I exploded custard in the microwave in work yesterday lol Such a mess. I dont think I know TC from anything, but I have to admit hes very good looking. Im going along as I do love a musical and the original film is a firm favourite

Im going to have to come live your part of the world @bubbs , might make my wages last a bit longer :) Some great bargains there. As for Pringles, mum loves them, I cant abide them so she has to buy her own. Every Christmas, without fail she will buy a thingy of dips and a tub of Pringles and without fail, they will end in the bin and the birds. She has this idea in her head that we would all sit around playing board games snacking on them - she has completely different memories then me

@beanielou, just enjoy yourself. Its Christmas, if thats whats planned then thats whats planned so go and enjoy. I think the only thing you can do it keep in the mindset that weight loss is your ultimate goal and to keep in your head that this is just a blip and you will be back on track as soon as you can. Ive noticed so many in group have dropped out saying they will be back in the new. year cos they know they arent going to lose. Actually last week was the first time the consultant had to say the gains outweighed the losses. So dont be beating yourself up, we are all in the same boat ( I defo will be from next week )

@maman, I dont think schools close here till mid week. They have very short Christmas holidays as they get 2 months of for summer - majority of kids here are from farming communities and work on the farms in the summer so fingers crossed I get to go and enjoy. Your meal out sounded lovely, got to love a baked Camembert :)

    Well done @MrsPorridge xx

Im up early - again - stomach still not good, still not been to the loo - day 4 now. All I managed yesterday was kippers , scrambled eggs and spinach , didnt manage to eat during the day. I weighed myself yesterday morning - happy - jumped on last night and the scales were really bad on me, said a 3lb gain which I know is because I had eaten and not been to the loo, but its weigh in today. I know its daft cos I know overall I am losing, but a gain always upsets me deep down

So weigh in, shops, not doing park run my friend is also busy. Home, clean the kitchen, do the ironing, wrap the pressies for the Grandkids as we are going down on Sunday, then and only then, put up the tree :)  It will be the usual bacon butty for lunch ( with rocket and tomatoes and Ill take turkey rashers cos Im getting very naughty and leaving the fat on ) and probably the usual salmon and pasta for supper. Tomorrow lord alone knows, three hour road trip, the daughter will have sandwiches and bits out for us, then I have friends coming for drinks in the evening and Im going to be tired from the travel so I shall also probably just do a wee spread instead of having to juggle cooking dinner and entertain, friends will be here 5 -7 - they like to come early and leave early as they have animals to get back to put in

Have a good day everyone xxx
