I am now very grateful that Mr Redo had rejected the (damp) loft as a storage place. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Wangle yourself an invite out for dinner and use someone else’s electricity 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6

Even the overnight rates aren't great, but I think I can manage to top up the battery and live off that tomorrow... It will certainly help it pay for itself!5

Haha - loving all the meal suggestions! In fact I rehydrated double the usual amount of couscous last night, and hard boiled the remaining eggs in the 9.30pm lower priced slot, so we'll have a cold couscous salad tonight as well. I've got some cooked red pepper to throw in, it will get dressed with some leftover sun dried tomato oil I think, and it will also serve to use up the bag of rocket I bought YS'd and then completely forgot to use for the meal it was intended for! Thankfully we are not people who object to occasionally eating the same sort of thing two days on the run!
SA I love your style with the wangling an invitation out idea, and as for a picky tea PiP, I'm reminding myself that there will be an awful lot of those to come this month. If tomorrow is as grim though I will be suggesting cheese and crackers for tea, for sure!
Redo - the biggest issue with Mum & Dad's loft is that there was a fair amount of stuff that went straight up there when they moved in, and that combined with some stuff their sellers had left too...Dad boarded a bit more of it out years back, but there still isn't really enough room for everything! (But it does at least have more headroom than ours, which is an advantage!) Mum was determined she wanted to really start going through stuff thankfully - which Dad would never have got around to! We've been quite hard-headed about ours so far, but I appreciate that having only been in the house a bit over a year, it is "early days" - my beady eyes are primed and ready to spot MrEH slipping into a "we can just put it in the loft and forget about it" mentality!
Before I forget, today's Nice Thing has involved unearthing another lot of jewellery that I had sort of forgotten about - when we moved I boxed up a load of "statement" necklaces which I rarely wore. This morning I remembered where the box was stashed, and I am now sporting one made up of a copper chain with three copper discs of ascending sizes hanging from it.
MSE Stuff:
- Annoyingly although MrEH wasn't in London on Monday, which saved us a day of tube fares, we have had to take separate cars today as he had a client meeting dead on 9.30am which meant he needed to go out a bit earlier than usual.
- My FD Reg Saver matured, and I have opened the new one - and had the confirmation that it has been opened - and also stashed the funds from the matured one away into a savings account where they will earn rather more dosh until we decide what to do with them.
- I have also checked that my Standing Order for the monthly payment to FD is set to continue
- MrEH collected my prescriptions for me yesterday morning and I was pleased to see that all of them had been issued, which means I've extracted good value from my most recent 3-month prepay certificate. I should be able to go several months without needing another one now.
- More CC shuffling done this morning - and that now leaves us just a few oddments to deal with to get things squared away.
- A little flurry of Prolific bits picked up again this morning so another few £'s in the pot including one which should pay a small bonus as well.
- I've got 1P opened up again too, picked up a few surveys on there yesterday and will aim for a few more today.

I have every sympathy with the loft clearance. I moved here over 30 years ago from a house almost twice the size. I got rid of most of the furniture but oh the "stuff". I realised when my hip was bad that there was no way I was getting up there unless I really had to, but now the hip is done I have been trying to make myself do some. I need a bigger car & a bit (well a lot) more muscle tone. There must be 100 wasgijs up there & they are going nowhere until I've done them again!

Oh goodness yes you'd definitely need to do them first, just to be absolutely sure they were right for getting rid of, if nothing else!
I remembered at lunch that I wanted some eye makeup remover, so called in at the footwear related chemists, and found a bottle of one that was perfect for my needs at half price - £1.94. To top that off, I paid using my points as well, so not only cheap, but cash-neutral!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Your necklace sounds fabulous. It makes me feel all jaunty and chirpy when I chose and wear my advent jewellery.
I love it when a regular savings account matures. I find these are the best way for me to be disciplined about saving because I treat them as a bill that has a scheduled day for the DD to be collected. I am trying to spread them out over the year - 1 per quarter. I then enjoy doing smaller money shuffles to top up savings pots over the course of the month.4 -
Very impressed with the loft clearing! We have three here 😱 and the only reason they're not all full is because we also have several outbuildings 😬
We actually only use one - the one above the extension (which is quite large). It actually used to have a flat roof, and then someone built a sloped roof on top, so the floor of the loft used to be outside, if you see what I mean. There's always mice in it, so occasionally they help us with the decluttering by ruining stuff 🙄 There's also a massive loft above the bedroom which currently has nothing at all in.
And then a third menace of a loft over the offshot - tiny, with a miniscule hole. Not properly boarded, but there's an electric water heater up there - Mr Cheery went up to prevent a leak once and stuck his hand through the floor 🙄 the ceiling below isn't plastered, it's stupid plastic panels, which are now bowed and won't push back together 🙄 Sadly I fear we need to just start again - but the loft above is filled with that dreadful bits-of-foam insulation stuff, so I think we need to clear that and board the loft before we can think about sorting the plastic ceiling (which in the meantime is just propped up with a stick) 🙄
Ha, sorry, your loft discussion prompted a late night 'oh god more DIY' train of thought 🙄😂5 -
We don’t have any lofts. Not sure if it’s a curse or a blessing. I dread to think what Dh could squirrel up there if we did have one. It would be good have more storage space though.I’ve just been catching up…..hopefully the bruises from your fall have subsided now. It sounded awful.January spends - £587.585
