So seems Octopus is taking over Shell E.
Any Octopus customers, what should we expect?  Will Smart Meters still work once everything has gone through?

Yes. We've recently moved from EDF to Octopus, and they are like a breath of fresh air. The most helpful energy company I've ever had dealings with. There was no problem at all with them getting the readings from our Smets2 meter.

Octopus are one of the top if not the top.energy supplier. Don't forget switch early and earn some referral money.

Smart meters will work as they have done before.

Not a case of switching, they’re buying Shell Energy

If you don't want £50, wait for the buyout.
If you do want £50, switch beforehand.

Think the point being made is initiate a switch yourself before everyone gets moved over. With a referral code you both get 50 quid.

It might work, it might not.
  • I have moved other family members to octopus because of other people reviews. The one switch was fine no issues and CS were quick to respond to queries.

Another switch, CS took weeks to respond with multiple chaser emails sent. I believe the issue has now been resolved but still waiting for confirmation from them. In the end I had to escalate the issue on behalf of the family member. Its now been nearly 2 months.

Then my energy fix is due to end on the 1st October (2 yr Sainsburys fix). I have decided to remain with Sainsburys Energy rather than switch to Octopus because I regularly contact Sainsburys via facebook and always get a response within an hour or so. Never had an issue with them and always been attentive.

One thing I have noticed Octopus vs other energy companies if you can view your half hourly data if you have smart meters which is interesting to see the spikes in energy.

I don't think Shell Energy customers have anything to worry about. Broadband customers like me, that's another question!

Only if the meter is set to the 30 minute profile.  Irrespective of the supplier, all smart meter users on a 30 minute profile can see their 30 minute usage data via third-party Apps such as Bright or Loop.

any shell customers may as well switch to Octopus now if they are on variable anyway. they can then get the switch incentive and get on any Octopus tariff that appeals to them. £50.00 each if you switch and use a friend/family referral.
you'll be with Octopus soon anyway, so why lose out?
  • The day before the announcement Shell is going over to Octopus, I signed a fixed term deal with Shell.  I am still within the limit limit for cancelling.  Should I do so, or will I be able to switch once Octopus takes over?
