Hide the Forum Menu - Feedback

For those of you who would like the ability to disable the white drop-menu, we've added a little option on this page:
Hide the Drop Menu
Please note that this is very much a small fix that hides the menu where possible and may not be foolproof.
We hope that our provider will at some point be able to provide more official options so that the menu works in a way our members are more satisfied with.
We've tested this fix as much as we can on several devices, but please let us know in this thread if it works for you.

Unfortunately it does not seem to work on the Search page such as the one I use as default (which is where I find it most annoying when checking if a new comp has already been posted or not):

Search has always been a bit of a special page that works slightly differently.
But I'll still see if there's anything more that can be done.Join the MSE Forum

Brill, makes (forum) life so much cleaner. Took me a while to work out that that you had to click on it, select it and then select your board from that page. I Ctrl clicked to open it in a new tab and when I went back to the other tab it didn't work. Up and running now!0

Hi everyone
Just a quick update that if you've chosen to hide the menu, you'll soon see a little icon in your menu bar.
As we tell more people outside this thread about the ability to hide the menu, we need to give them a quick way back to the preference page if they change their mind.
In the future when you turn off the menu, a little popup will point out the icon as a way to get back to the menu preference page.

That sounds really useful!

I appreciate being able to turn that menu off, as I am sure many other users will too. It's just a shame that users are going to have to dig through the forums to find this post. There should really be an option for this in the user settings page, which might be a more intuitive place to look when looking to change forum appearance settings.1

Found this option (and the thread) after spotting the newly created menu item when annoyingly confronted with the menu while moving my mouse up to change tabs, thanks for responding to the suggestion above, or I'd be none the wiser. It's great we can now turn these menus off. As an observation, they would be less of a problem if attached to the navigation bar on the right of the page, rather than at the top, as users are less likely to accidentally mouse-over them unless actually using that menu. An on-click trigger of the menu would be the ideal though.

We've now added to the drop-menu a new item linking to the preference page - It's been added to the menu as that's the place members who regularly accidentally activate it are most likely to see the option and think about wanting to change it.
On the preference page, when you choose to hide the menu, a popup lets you know that we've added a new icon so that you can change your preference at any time.

As queried elsewhere, if the fly out menu is enabled there is no icon. So how do you find the Enabler page in the first place?Jenni x0
