Kids these days dont seem to play conkers like we used to. Loads of them around by me on the hill. They would have been snatched up in my day.

Snatch them up yourself and put them in a bowl or a vase or on a shelf/fireplace for a completely free autumnal home interiors display @amber03 😊

Also, conkers are meant to stop spiders from coming into the house, my mum used to have them on all her windowsills.

I tried that windowsill trick to find conkers make very good cat toys that can be batted under sofas.

last Autumn we did a conkers competition for grandkids and kids that were visiting from Australia. The Australians had never heard of conkers and really enjoyed collecting them from the street/park during the 3 day pre-competition preparatory phase. The competition itself was great fun and the adults couldn't resist joining in. Fortunately R Lambert did not come along and ruin things 🙃

Ah. Conkers. Loved them when I was littler. My brother and I used to soak them in vinegar then dry them in the airing cupboard to harden. I was never very good at the battles though. Needed a conker the size of a cannon ball to hit anything. Maybe other players were put off challenging me, my vest and undies probably gave off stale vinegar fumes having shared said airing cupboard.

The party wall people continue to be fuming and I don't blame them in the slightest. Builders are meant to be round there later this week so hopefully will do a good job but builders sh*te decisions have landed us with a stupid big unexpected bill we didn't figure in, because who knew builders dealing with party wall neighbours could possibly be so stupid as to block their access to/astonishingly mistreat their expensive garden plants for months so they've now all died and we have to replace them, on top of all the cracks and making good, on top of them wanting compo for scaffolding being on their property for much longer than expected and builders working past their agreed hours, all of which happened without our knowledge.
