You are describing my kitchen, our reclaimed butlers sink is on a stand made of 2 by 4, we also have a couple of shelving units/bookcases. It does the job and has been this way for 12+ years.
When we moved home 5 years ago, this place was ok except for the 197O's (I think, could be '60's) kitchen. I love old things, but not those horrible wall tiles decorated with bunches of grapes, carrots etc.
The kitchen renovation has just began, doing it on a shoestring obviously. Shaker style cupboard doors (using the old carcasses) from bee & queue. Only 4 doors put on so far, but what a difference already!

There's still a lot to do, but as my OH is over 80 & had a heart attack 9 months ago, he is doing well. Luckily for me, he was a carpenter in a previous life.

I would love to have had freestanding units, but my kitchen is so small that it wouldn't have been practical. I have asked for a few open shelves though.

    Happy Sunday @beanielou 😊🥂

Ooh thanks for those ideas @WelshmansDaughter, appreciated. First we have to find money and sort out details and delivery to have one functioning bathroom, do the heat pump in case Budget B*ggery occurs, and get windows and front and back doors 😭😂
  • I should correct myself and say the big river thingy (baker's rack it is called apparently) is around £60.

What you mean you don't want to live in a bathroom less house with excellent ventilation?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Totally agree on the budget speculation. It is really irritating, seems to have been going on for months!  It seems so upsetting for some, frustrating for others and causes so much unease (shakes self off stool and goes off mumbling)

Returns to say I know someone who bought a fabulous kitchen, handmade expensive with an American Style fridge for £250 if they removed it.   Barely worn.  VNM bought his kitchen off face book market place for his house too.    The place I rented was originally a lovely friends home and when she extended into her dad's barn to get a bigger kitchen, she bought her American fridge freezer which was fabulous for £75 and her range cooker for £150  The range cooker was really lovely too and she reused some units someone was giving away, then bought a couple that nearly matched new from Howdens.  Despite the fact that the units didn't match the kitchen was gorgeous!  (Once she loaned me her grandmothers old Ercol furniture to put at the other end, most people thought the kitchen and living area was a  fabulous style statement)

Seeing these second hand / recycle what you have spaces has made me think over buying new (although I will admit the friend who has just had a very posh hand made kitchen installed has a fabulous space, but the £££££ eek)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
