    On marzipan:
I made my first ever Battenberg yesterday and virtuously decided to make my own marzipan.
Between that, cooking a curry, baking bread and walking around the kitchen with a massive German Shepherd banging my feet and legs with cuddly toys it was a mare! Ended up spreading it on the sponge which was already daubed with apricot jam to receive said covering.
With Prue and Paul’s imaginary scowls in front of my eyes I shoved it in the fridge. However, it’s bloody delicious so I don’t care about appearances. Least of all my own at the end of the day. 😵‍💫

If it had a harder core it might have wrapped around the cake a bit better!
  • Marzipan is one of the most evil things ever to have existed, going around and ruining perfectly decent desserts. Still, I'm glad you had some enjoyment @Slowdown even if it was somewhat 'rustic' (our household code for cooking that looks dreadful).
And check you out with your dinner making, cake making, bread baking, and German Shepherd. You are living the cottage dream, please come sprinkle some domestic magic on me 😂

  • I've been eating fruit cake for months and have been most affronted by the price increase of 40p just because of the Red Season. However Mr A have now dropped prices so all is well again. Unless you ask my teeth 🤣
And yes marzipan is the work of the devil
