I didn't know what I wanted to eat which is very unusual for me @doingitanyway but as soon as we came up with cheesy mash and beans, that was definitely what I want nom nom1

@PennysIntoPounds - Lol at the self-administered kicks going on. Here at Foxgloves Manor, we are getting better at solving cryptic crosswords, having learned from the Saturday Guardian Quick Cryptics which we began doing in Summer last year. We can now manage their standard Saturday cryptic though it may have been a little easier this time as we finished it yesterday instead of the more usual Thursday or Friday. We like the Observer Everyman crossword too, which we find easier than the main Saturday Guardian one. They all help to keep the grey cells oiled & usually provide a laugh.

I always used to do the Guardian crosswords with my mother from quite a young age when there were lots of quotes from Shakespeare. I must have read every single one looking for the relevant quotes. She used to get so cross when they changed the compiler.1

Few surveys
Build admin
Usuals
Steps getting olio bread
Trying very hard not to go berserk with the builder who has apparently put in different stairs to the ones we asked for
Half wussy situps
Client job
We are also getting the impression someone we asked for a quote from for some legal paperwork has actually done the work and will want paying, which would be very annoying as we're simultaneously arguing with the council that we shouldn't have to do it at all
Dinner is M&S meal deal of stuffed pasta and sauce cos it has been one of those days
This evening's plans are more client work and more build admin. And a bottle sized glass of wine.3 -
Stairs??? You’ve got as far as stairs! Wowzers. Impressed. 👍0

Thank you for your enthusiasm @Slowdown and @Blackcats but I am fuming and very stressed!
Builder asked us if we wanted mdf or wood for the stairs. As the house is very small and dark, we said we would spend the extra on proper wood as the staircases are such a dominant feature and we thought better quality would be well worth the money in this case.
He has apparently put mdf stairs for the upstairs and wood for the ground floor- there is not space for them to not be really noticeably different as there is only one 'step' between them, so we've wasted £400 on having wood for the lower stairs if we have to cover them in carpet to have the flow of the stairs match, or we have to have a sudden and suspicious end of carpet on the upper stairs which will look sh*t and we now have to find money for carpet and fitters, or we have them all bare but half the house looks cheaper and unfinished.
