I can’t believe how incompetent all these no doubt highly paid people are 🤬I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

Another astonished at incompetence
I paid capital gains tax on the rental I owned when I sold it to PPH. It was rented and an allowance was made for the time lived in it but you don’t pay CGT on main residence sales unless land involved (bet PPH never paid that tho!)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -

Today's build brilliance has been Mr PIP's brother getting an email from the council to register to vote at the new address. Which isn't built. And they got the address wrong. And none of the other three of us got one. Is anyone in a position of any authority in this country able to do the simplest task in any way correctly?https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

Perhaps this means that they have approved everything. I would say they are beyond belief but I suspect most of do not believe that.0

The incompetence in this country is astonishing. Mr LH calls it "the British disease".0

I find the really annoying thing is that those with a "lesser" status wouldn't get away with it. The thing is that it isn't new. Back in 1969 (not a typo) I was buying a house with my then fiance & we made the mistake of using the venders solicitor to save money. I read what I was signing, wrong & larger house, solicitor, it won't matter, ex it won't matter. Solicitor charged us for going back & signing the correct documents. Five years later different solicitor tried to give half our house to ex's parents, my father (not a solicitor) stopped that one. I could go on but it never ends.I just want to know why it is we need to know as much as a solicitor when we are paying them a fortune because we don't have a choice.0

Council have most definitely not approved everything unfortunately @badmemory
We got an email the other day from one of the million council departments, none of whom speak to any of the others, asking for our completion date and nearly had to get the Tena's out for laughing so hard 😐
I hear the bureaucracy in other nearby countries is even worse @ladyholly so if we ever unexpectedly have enough money for a place in the sun it'll be on the South Coast of Britain for our three days of sun (non consecutive, terms and conditions apply) 😂
I agree though there does seem to be a wilful lack of joined up thinking in Britain by those who could improve things
That is shocking @badmemory. Phew for your father. It is all such a racket. I will never understand why we have to pay a solicitor thousands of pounds to receive the money from the lender and send it to our bank account, as if a building society isn't able to transfer money they choose to release to the people whose accounts they've scrutinised and who they made the contract with. Absolute nonsensehttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

The money thing is all a hangover from the past when it used to take ages to get money out of the bank, so it got lodged with the solicitor & they would basically say alright all the money for all these transactions is now in place "lets go". But now money even very large sums is moveable in minutes.1
