    What a dire broker.
The broker has been good and told them before that questioning was out of order, it's the lender that's dire, I can't believe they called me directly to try to see if I was more vulnerable to answering if they didn't have to go through him

    That’s just soooo intrusive … 😢

SO intrusive, and makes me feel they're extra despicable that they keep trying to dress it up as for my own good then when that fails they basically go 'okay we were lying but we want to know if you're an acceptable type of disabled' even though its completely irrelevant.
They've got my passport picture but I bet before internet existed they insisted on face to face meetings to make sure people were the right type of skin colour. Really p*ssed off with their conduct

Is there some kind of ombudsman you could report them to? Horrible that they also hit you on a bad day, which must have made it feel even worse.

That's not good customer service from the lender, very insensitive. I think a complaint is in order.

When we made some changes to our mortgage a few years ago they asked how much we spent on commuting/petrol/car costs and I said nothing. We don't have a car and I walk everywhere. He refused to believe me and insisted on coming up with a figure plucked out of the air because 'no one spends nothing on commuting' 😐

So intrusive but sadly not uncommon. I have a friend who is an amputee and more times than I care to mention has been asked to "prove" this.   Luckily she is fabulous, confident and well spoken and any intrusiveness is met with a robust comment she will remove her leg for them - or - send a video of her doing so and then send proof of same to their management/twitter/ombudsman delete as appropriate.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

    A modern classic @foxgloves
Still shocked they had the cheek to call me (they have never called either of us, it's all been done through broker or portal so this looks so underhand)

    Thanks @WinterWarrior @Sun_Addict @Watty1

Unfortunately at the moment we really need their over 6% loan (😭😭😭) so can't start causing aggro but if I do get a spare moment I will look into how illegal it is as it seems fairly dodgy

I sometimes wonder if some of the "overcurious" things we come across are to discover how easy we would be to scam & whether they are checking to see if we are cautious enough for safety or insecure enough for them to scam.  But then I do have a nasty suspicious mind.  I once accused one of a bank fraud team of trying to defraud me.  You could almost hear him trying to keep a straight face.

Very rude of the lender!  I think they are so intrusive on so many parts of our lives that they assume they can nose about in everything about us, however, unnecessary.  As you say, there is a balance of power in that they have the money that you need.  But it is enabling you to build your home.  Hopefully soon they will just be a line with a minus against it on your bank statement and you will be enjoying a Tuscan hamper in your own house.

Popped over to Mums for exchange of bits

    Usuals

Build admin trying to sort out what the heck all the different terms mean to compare schedule of inspections from warranty inspector, inspections from building controller, and evidence for verification for lender fund release stages. Had to stop as my brain is swamped. People keep saying things and I have absolutely no idea what they mean. I'm not a builder/engineer/architect, stop saying things at me! Anyway, I'll work it out. Just not today. Today brain be tired.

And broker has said he agrees with me about lender being out of order again and has passed it to his boss who has told them so and told them to prioritise giving us the official offer.
And it turns out the lender can miraculously provide us with a receipt now they know they're in trouble when it was completely impossible yesterday.
