Would carpaccio be commonly shortened to carp in the meat eating/buying world @foxgloves? I never have any idea on meat clues!

@redofromstart we're trying to find a way 'beef' would plausibly mean 'carp'

As 'Carpenter' is a great answer from @Sun_Addict meaning 'chips' (or someone who chips away)
and the 'come in' part of the clue looks like being 'enter' with the letters we already have

    So we have ?C ?A R ?P E N T E R (possibly 😁)
    from  _  _ R _ E _ T _ R
and the clue being 'Chips and beef come in'

I was more thinking carp as in fish - and chips 🤣

    A hankering often provides inspiration @Sun_Addict 😂

Come back @KajiKita, we need fresh eyes!

Okay if anyone is still bothering with this, please ponder what the clue going into it that may now have C (from carpenter) in it

     _ P _ E _ C _  _

The gash above it is from a blow, 8 letters

    I'm confident on the P and E

    Worryingly true @Sun_Addict 🤣

The gash above it is from a blow...

Perfectly normal thing to be staring at on a Sunday evening 😁

    ditto to @KajiKita's post.
I came on here to have a relaxing Sunday evening catch up on your diary and as well as being bewildered by carp and chips I am insulted by @PennysIntoPounds and @EssexHebridean with their north londonist views 🤣

great news that Ernie has sorted out some of your May expenses.

What a rude welcome back of me @Blackcats 😂
I've checked with Mr PIP and he's got the main move costs sorted for his end so my remainder £100 will indeed be going into LISA and flat pot, not sure of what proportions yet though...
