However, it even wants people to scan a teeny tiny QR Code to read their t&cs

I thought the use of mobile phones in the vicinity of petrol pumps was forbidden. Risk of explosion.

Define irony .. putting a tiny sign with a QR code above a fuel dispenser which clearly shows a sign saying Switch off mobile phones. 🤦‍♀️

……….. and anyway one should not use a mobile phone (upon which is the camera or QR code reader) near a petrol pump. This is an irresponsible suggestion by the petrol station owner or ForecourtEye

It's industry guidance on safety grounds, I take a photo of the pump display with my phone every time I fill up and have never had anyone tell me not to.

When was the last time you saw a petrol station explode?

It's been fully debunked and the advice only exists as an insurance tick.

It might have been an issue with the early analogue mobile phones, as they pushed out much higher power signals. But since digital technology became the norm it's not been an actual issue.

Still doesn't offset my earlier observation though. 😉

Here's the equivalent effort by Vars Tech, which is about double the size of the Forecourt Eye sign and it has £100 in big, but the terms are unreadable up there:

The top pic is the view while filling up. Nobody would see that. I was looking for it of course but there is no contract there.

Bottom pic is zoomed in on my phone but this isn't how any driver can actually see it in real life, unless you are seven feet tall.

Horizon Parking sign, seen by my son at a pub last weekend. Quite brightly coloured and the £95 PCN is legible but the four t&cs underneath are in minuscule font and there's nothing about any added DRA 'fee' fakery.

When he went inside and ordered at the bar, the staff did not mention the VRM exemption screen, despite one of them standing right in front of it (hiding it by mistake):

    IMG_3771.jpeg

My son entered his VRM - of course - but this screen is a 'consumer notice' per the CRA 2015 and it's a POFA2012 'relevant obligation' to use it, with ominous terms and financial risk hinging on it.

These screens (and small payment machines inside Motorway Services for stays over 2 hours, which are very similarly hidden) need more prominence!

But it's missing all the 'material information' from the signs outside, especially a prominent alert/warning banner about the £95 PCN and terms which need repeating at these unfairly hidden units/screens inside premises.

It is not enough to have signs outside when an ominous driver 'obligation' kiosk, unit or screen sits quietly on a desk inside pubs, restaurant, gyms, hotels and GP surgeries, with no 'red arrow or red hand' pointing to it (Lord Denning).

Here's how ALL these screens should be required by the Code of Practice to look:

Not seen any examples on here of Touchscreen Kiosks like those shown in the link. Seen one of those tall signs on entry to Invergowrie Inn but it doesn't tell you keypad is at the bar to register your VRM.

A quirky one. Eureka have taken a sign that appears to be based on an Excel one, but simply replaced every mention of Excel with Eureka Science + Discovery Ltd. So they would be issuing their own in-house PCNs and requesting data from the DVLA. I didn't get a photo in person, but these are from Streetview and appear up to date.
