More of a lurker but I have also found your thread really helpful for retirement planning. I am seriously thinking of leaving a very paid secure job at 55 to move back to my homeland and they do not allow remote working. It is so scary but it is good to see how others have bridged the gap and also how life looks when finally fully retiring.

Your life sounds good to me Baron_Dale. I always like returning to familiarity after a break too. No place like home  hey.
  • Flight compensation arrived in my bank account this morning. £200 to Cash ISA, £360 to savings account with the virtual annual pots, £100 to relative as a treat, £50 for garden table and rest left in current account as a little extra padding lol!

Very pleased to read flight compensation paid promptly and a great boost to saving pots. Hope your relative enjoys the treat.

    Your garden is sounding nice.

I’ve just been reading on another thread that someone is running at 5.5% on premium bonds. Pure luck I suppose.

Those who hold the maximum £50000 tend to do well. I doubt my total savings will ever reach that amount, let alone have that much in PBs lol!
My PB interest rate is currently 1.75% !  :(

I have been doing some gardening for the past couple of days. Purchased a couple of hanging baskets as well as some new perennial plants for a couple of flower beds. Total cost about £100. The lawns have also been mowed and fed. Need to buy another 2 or 3 perennials, plus some flowering annuals for the containers. My elderly relative has shared the cost.
I am battling the badger, again. Someone gave me some old wire freezer baskets, which I turned into mini-veg plots. Leaves had started to appear, but badger has dug up half of two of them. He's also digging on a grass verge just outside the garden, and in the front lawn. I wouldn't mind so much, but there's a lovely strip of woodland on one side of the house, and open grass leading to a river and woodland on another!

I have some netting which I might try putting around all the baskets. Just need to leave an easy way in ...

I have also won £50 this month on the Premium Bonds.

Interestingly I have been considering selling the PBs. I only have £10000 worth, and in the last year they have generated about £175 in prizes. In my cash ISA that amount of money would have made £425 interest! Perhaps a bigger prize could be just around the corner! Who knows! :*

I always think of my Premium Bonds as like buying a lottery ticket but I can get my money back if I don't win. That way I don't think about the interest  I could have generated elsewhere and see any prize as a bonus and maybe the big one is going to be next month!

Loving the garden update @[Deleted User].  Gardening is good for the soul. Fingers crossed for the big win next month on the premium bonds.
