Morning all! STS this week please @Brambling. Had friends staying so once again too much wine, cheese and biscuits. It's so hard to keep weight off, nevermind get rid of some, when all the nice things pile the lbs on. Waaaah!!! Hopefully back to 'normal' now.
Plus side: I managed to run for 5 miles non stop, only one more mile-ish to go to get to a 10k continuous run.
Looking at my diet, I can't afford to keep eating Greek yogurt every day, and big salads full of feta and avocado. It's like £9 a week just for 5 days breakfast if I add in fruit and nuts. I think lower carb works for me, but when I can get 20 portions of porridge for £1.50ish, plus honey/syrup/cinnamon... and it does fill me up. Will look at other options. I'll start having homemade lentil and veg soup for lunch with a pitta bread, and lower carb evening meals. I've got some protein shake powder to use up first though!
Fingers crossed for a positive week everyone!3 -
STS is good Pixie if you have had friends staying. I agree that porridge is the cheapest filling breakfast although I tend not to eat it during the summer. What brand of greek yoghurt do you buy can you go to a own brand one, some are better than others? I don't make my own but I did see a couple of recipes on one of the threads to making it in a slow cooker which works out a lot cheaper. At the moment I am enjoying fresh berries but frozen do work out a lot cheaper and I keep some in the freezer.

@Pixie_Cosmo & @Brambling
The greek yoghurt from Lidl and Aldi is very nice and the cheapest around. £1.80ish for a 500ml pot and maybe £2.50 at Aldi for the 1L one?
And if you go into Lidl look for their Deluxe nut muesli - one of the few on the market not full of nasty raisins (blergh!) but not sweet and full of nuts too.
Then I get a tin of the peach slices in juice and put a small amount of the muesli (but oats work well too), top with some of the peaches and juice, and top with yoghurt and leave overnight. And that's birchler muesli!!! Like porridge but cold and no cooking pots to clean up!!!
And frankly any fruit will do other than bananas. I've used frozen raspberries, added while still frozen as they thaw over night. You can add whatever nuts or seeds you might have to hand too.

@Brambling, @Brie thank you both! Sadly I don't have A or L near me, so I have to rely on Mr T deliveries, or very expensive local Coop. I'm the only one who eats plain yogurt in my house. My fave is a certain expensive brand, which I only get when it's on offer. Still working out expensive in the long term. I prefer live yogurt and some of the own brands don't seem to have 'bugs' in. I have tried A's Greek yogurt and it is lovely and creamy.
I'm going to alternate with soya Greek-style yogurt (on offer yay!) with nuts and frozen berries, and porridge on run days for the next couple of weeks. Lunches will be cheese, crackers and crudites, or thick spicy carrot and lentil soup with pitta. Or houmous, oat cakes and crudites. That gets a lot of veg inside me, and lunch lasts for ages crunching on all the carrots!
I seem to be gaining and losing the same 3-4 lbs as well at the mo. Must focus and remember how much better I feel being fitter and lighter.3 -
I hope the IBS isn't too bad Jenny at STS is good if you are having stomach issues
Of course you can stay SuffolkSue you would be missed
Pixie my preferred 0% Greek yoghurts are TOTAL or Yeo do a thick one like you i look for offers and last time i got £1 off using the smart shop in Sainsburys. Recently i picked up a 5% fat one in error and it took a while to enjoying the 0% one againit was so nice and i couldn't waste it
What about falafel as a filling lunch with your pita or i like houmous and grated carrot as a pita / sandwich filling. If you have the oven on what about roasted root vegetable for lunch either as a salad or a pitta filling
