Gas Meter Still Increasing Whilst Gas Isolated (Siemens/Landis+Gyr E6S)

Could well be - that's an old picture too - its all but invisible now due to weathering (probably due to the number of times I've had to record meter readings over the past 9 months)Gerry1 said:

I could go on at length about the very poor response we've had thus far from So Energy (3 weeks in) but this is MeteredOut's thread. I just want to assure other readers who stumble on this information source (as I did) that for these meters errors are not as exceptional as most literature suggests. The E6 meters seem to be going badly wrong at the users' expense. There doesn't seem to have been an effective process to renew their batteries, replace or otherwise maintain them.
MeteredOut - Your meter Serial Number is covered in the photo. What year is it? It's the penultimate two digits on the Siemens ones but I guess Landis & Gyr are the same. But, a sticker on the meter might indicate it was installed on 20/05/2014:

I have just spoken to EDF. They're going down the route of "get a smart meter installed and we'll monitor usage going forward". I said I still want an OFMAT so its been escalated internally. Can I absolutely insist on an OFMAT?
I did say that if it turned out no OFMAT could be done, the minimum I'd want is written confirmation that after switching to a smart meter, we'd monitor gas usage (I suggest it would have to be covering the coming winter at a minimum) and if that is less than the previous years (i'd push to 2 years as I have recorded evidence of diagnostic codes on the meter from Sep 2021) then I'll be made right on what I have been overcharged.
The cynic in me is wondering whether the utilities are pushing back on getting the E6S meter tested as they are internally aware that there is undoubtedly an underlying issue with them at a certain age, and perhaps they don't want to open that Pandora's box...0 -
Insist on getting the meter formally tested, otherwise it will end up being recycled (or going to landfill) and the evidence will be gone. You'll then be at the mercy of EDF.I understand that removed electronic gas meters are left for about a month before being volumetrically tested to see whether the reading changes. You have solid evidence that it's malfunctioning, so don't give up on the last lap.Nil Carborundum Illegitimi !

Although the test is free, you may have to pay your energy supplier for organising it if your meter is found to be working correctly, which was the case for the vast majority of meters tested in 2021.”

Meter fitters are notoriously bad at filling in the sticky label with any legibility but they do send off all the details electronically there and then on the job in front of the meter .Gerry1 said:

. The meter installed 20/May /2016 was nt a new meter and had already done 08002 cubic metres as a start reading , so it was a second hand meter, a fairly rare occurance . They normally start at either 99998 or 99999 to allow a little for a purge1 -
Stop wasting your time with them. Clearly they want to keep going backward and forward until you get bored and go away. Just tell them to arrange the test or issue the deadlock letter.

The complaint has been ongoing since August last year. No need for a deadlock letter, the OP can go straight to the ombudsman now (it has been well over eight weeks since the start of the complaint).Bendo said:Stop wasting your time with them. Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
I suppose the slight challenge to that might be that I accepted that they close the complaint in January on the basis that it would be re-opened if the issue resurfaced (it looked like it had stopped but I could no longer measure/track as i could not keep our heating off over the winter).FreeBear said:

On the plus side, they did reopen the same complaint rather than create a new one.0 -
Well thats interesting. Immediate thought was that someone else had the issue and it was taken out and just recylced, but I suspect its more likely its been swapped for someone to be replaced by a smart meter (assuming those were around in 2016).SAC2334 said:Gerry1 said:

You really need to get on that phone and start getting a bit more forceful, they are trying to wear you down.MeteredOut said:

I know as a fact that there are many meters out there doing the same thing and you really need to get it tested.1
