The Forum is getting a new text editor

Not being able to split quotes, or add comments within them, or make bits bold, is going to cause absolute havoc on the debt free boards when responding to SOAs.
Sadly it might put helpful posters off posting, if it's a PITA to do, and those seeking help will lose out.
This really is a step backwards ☹️
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)6 -
I can't post on the site at all from my Kindle - which I do 95% of my posts from.
As soon as I press the space bar between letters the whole text box disappears and will not return.I have cranked up my laptop just this once this morning to say so and say farewell to my regular contacts.
Shame as I've held up this site to others about how good and clear it is to use.
So thanks to all the lovely people who have helped me stagger through lifes problems big and small :-) I'll continue to ask for help on occasions but will rarely be able to respond to others on the forums.
(No, this is MSE, I'm not going out to buy a new tablet just for the one site)
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Don't know if the relevant bit of the post from @MWT I quoted above is visible or not, but it's this:
"Anything other than enabling editing of quotes is a poor substitute which is resulting in a huge amount of time being wasted to get the same effect as we had before… net result is fewer people getting helped and a lot less clarity on the answers given"
Having new emojis or gaining exciting new functionality is wholly useless if it results in posters who depearately need help to avoid parking fines or to win consumer refunds (or whatever) end up with poorer advice because it's no longer clear.
Strikes me that the architects of this change are more excited about how it looks or how modern it is rather than its ability to convey information and advice concisely, clearly and accurately.

This too

Same on the parking board and consumer advice board
(In order to put the bit I've manually cut and pasted above into bold and italics I've had to highlight each of the three paragraphs separately. I can't do them altogether. Where are the emojis we need like "WT* is going on?")

Not sure what's worse, a text editor that's that bad or the decision to approve its use and roll it out.
As people have effectively said, the facility to quote posts is about as good as a bag with no bottom.

So two things I've noticed are that
I've lost the real-time red wiggly line spell checker in chrome
posting a link doesn't mean that it will function as a link. I'm sure there's a way around that but it's not as intuitive as the old one.
For me, this isn't an improvement

A way around this is to hold down the 'shift' key when pressing 'enter'.
That will avoid the apparent blank line appearing.2 -
That worked thanks :) but what a kerfuffle !

Not only are edits not working but posts are being cut off before the end. MSE, you do some fab things...but this 'improvement' isn't one of them. Please revert as too many people are being excluded. Thanks Humdinger

Ignore - testing something
You can do it like this but it is clumsy and open to mistakes. What if there were two user names very similar - and there are - especially where posters use numbers to differentiate between other similar names and you chose the wrong one?
