  • Good morning and happy Monday!
Back at it today after a lovely weekend away, although it was very spendy! Thr good thing is that I haven't yet needed to pull any money from savings, I have added to it...quite a bit in fact.

Things will be pretty tight for the time being but I'm OK with that, hubby is also reigning in the spending this month and doing some overtime so we will be able to keep each other accountable.

Today is a NSD for me, it's needed after this weekend, we did have a great time though with lots of lovely food and quite a bit of drinking.  My PAD included £5 to the sabbatical and £48 to the envelope challenge.

For now, the savings have tipped over the £9k mark, but I will need to use some for the car insurance and some for my new glasses when I have my appointment tomorrow, it's varifocal time for me unfortunately, but at the moment I am just not using my glasses a lot of the time because I really can't see. Not ideal!

Anyway, it's off to work I go, calls from 9am

Hi all, hope you’re doing Ok this week?

I have declared today a NSD as even though I’ll have to pay for my new glasses later I am categorising these as ‘essential’ spending due to the fact I can’t see without them. Plus, I get to claim some of the cost back from my work cashback scheme.

Today’s PAD included £5 to the sabbatical, tomorrows will be big as its direct debit and mortgage day, plus it’s also dice day. 🎲

I’m going to sit down later and make a plan for the month in terms of going out, spending plans and see what shape the budget is for the month. OH is still on board with budgeting this month so we should be ok without raiding the savings. Just need to use savings for the car insurance hopefully.

I’m very tired today, last night was a terrible nights sleep and it felt like I saw every hour… no chance of a lie-in though as OH is on night shifts so he’s commandeered the bed for the day 😂

Thats it from me, have lovely days!

  • So, I did a thing...

When I was sorting out the finances yesterday I needed to create some new Monzo pots but I couldn't because there's a limit. So after some research I have opened a Starling account which will pay interest on the balance and all of the saving spaces.  My long term savings will be in Monzo and I've got my sinking funds in Starling spaces. Just from opening and moving them yesterday afternoon I have already earned some interest this morning :D

Interest has also been added to my long term savings pots... not sure how having the odd balances will sit with me, I may end up transferring the interest to the general saver yet, we will see how my OCD copes.  At first, I was worried about opening another account, but having slept on it I am certain I have made the right decision for my sinking funds. (Hope so anyway!!)

It's a NSD for me today, the opticians went surprisingly well yesterday too. It turns out that as I have my contact lenses on direct debit, I qualify for 50% discount on frames and varifocal lenses so they came to £150 and I get £105 back through work so in fact they've 'cost' me £45.

PAD was a big one, as it included the mortgage and utility payments, but also covered £5 to the sabbatical and £30 to the dice challenges so there's still saving going on.

That's it from me, have great days!

  • A quick one today as I’m poorly so heading back to bed/sofa, whichever is most comfortable. Although that does mean it’s a NSD for me.

PAD today included £5 to the sabbatical as usual, now stands at £1045 ☺️

Hope you’re all feeling better than me, feels like I have a golf ball lodged in my throat so swallowing is super-painful and I’ve had no sleep.

Oooh, that sounds horrid! 😢 Hope it eases soon. There are some ferocious bugs around atm in spite of it ‘being spring’.

  • Thanks guys! I feel like I have been constantly ill this year, as soon as I shake one, something else comes to get me :(

@Makingabobor2, it's very intuitive and visual which I prefer. You can add photos for different pots too so it's easy to see where your money is.  It is app based though, not online.  I just like the idea or gaining interest in a basic account again - you know, like the good old days!

Ouch that sounds awful, hope you feel better soon.
  • Thanks for the we wishes. I am feeling a little brighter today but still not well. I think it would make a difference if I could sleep for a decent stint.

Today will be another NSD for me, I will be spending the day feeling sorry for myself again :D I have made a £56 PAD this morning which included £5 to the sabbatical and I've also stuffed 2 envelopes in the 52 envelope challenge.

That's all for my update today though. I hope you all have a great weekend

  • Hello everyone, I hope you all had a fab long weekend :) I was really busy over the weekend and I'm thankful that on Saturday I started to feel much better.  I did manage to have a NSD yesterday though so that was good.

There's been a bit sent to savings this morning, with £5 to the sabbatical, £75 from the envelope challenge and £6.77 payout from Prolific. Not a NSD for me though as I am going out tonight.

It's a really busy day for me today, loads of meetings plus I have had a fair amount of emails over the weekend from other offices outside of the UK so that's why i am up early, can't sleep when I'm thinking about work!

Off to make a cuppa now :)
