Yes life definitely gets in the way. The good thing is that you have savings, and you can separate things if you choose to.

I've worked out that if I just abandon the concept of sinking funds for all of these specific for the rest of the year, I can reach my overall savings goals. Then use the 50 envelope challenge to get a good chunk set aside to start my sinking funds. It's less pressure and definitely more motivating doing it that way.

  • Hello all, life has definitely got in my way today and I only just find myself with some spare time to check the budget and update everything.

As I have been busy, today is a NSD for me, and my dic challenges did me over this afternoon with £111( ! ) being rolled and sent to savings, as well as my £5 to the sabbatical. I may decide to only roll the percentile dice once a month instead of every week!

We are out tomorrow for a family day and then visiting other family on Friday so a very busy end to the week but good busy if you know what I mean.  Out for dinner on Friday too so no more NSD's until the weekend at least. The great thing is that everyone seems to be having a nice time staying with us :)

    That's it from updates today
    Hope you're all doing well

  • Thanks Keedie, I really am.

Today we are off out for the day so it's not a NSD, my PAD was £5 to the sabbatical as usual.
Nothing else going on finance-wise. It will be spendy today but I have the funds available.

    Have lovely Thursdays!

  • Hi all, nothing to update on today, we still have family staying and today we are off out to town for a bit and will grab something to eat whilst we are out.

Looks like we will most likely be getting wet whilst we are out and about, so I've not dressed up too much :)

PAD today was £5 to the sabbatical and it's not a NSD.

  • Good morning, I have had a very lovely but quite spendy week and for my finances sake I am glad we are back to normal... well as 'normal' as we will ever be haha!

Starting the day with a PAD of £345.99 which included £5 sabbatical and £21 to the envelope challenge. I only have a doctors appointment scheduled today so it will also be a NSD, even if I have a prescription it's covered by my prepayment card.

We are away in a few weeks so I'm trying to save for that as much as I can.  We definitely need to book fewer holidays!  :D

That's all from me, I hope you're all doing OK? I have to start work now but will try to catch up on other's diaries later at lunch.

  • Hello everyone, it's not looking too bad here this morning and I can see little glimpses of blue sky which is promising :)

Today is not a NSD for me as I am off out tonight with friends. Shouldn't be too spendy though and I have no plans for the rest of the week, or the weekend for that matter.

PAD today was just £5 to the sabbatical, nothing much happening in the accounts at the moment which is good! I did cah out £6.80 from Prolific yesterday and I also cashed out £20 from receipt snapping which have been done as Amazon vouchers. They can just sit there until I need something :)

The house seems very quiet this week compared to last week, far less people and when hubby goes back to work n Thursday it will be just me and the dog... I'm sure I will cope.

Hope you all have great days ahead

    Good morning,
It's really busy for me at the moment so I haven't gotten around to catching up on the diaries I am subscribed to, I will try to do it today whilst I have a cuppa.

Today's PAD included my dice rolls, I rolled £59 worth so that's been saved along with £5 to the sabbatical.  It will be another NSD for me today and as I have no plans this week I should be able to save some of my weekly cash.

I have been adding weekly cash to my savings challenges and doing extra dice rolls but I realise this is going to my sealed pot which I can't use until October... So I've decided that any leftover spending cash will be allocated to holiday spending money which I will need in September.  I think that's the sensible thing to do, plus if I know it's going to spending money for the holiday I will second guess any frivolous spends.

Is there a better way of focused holiday saving? Open to your suggestions... I need to save another £600 ish in the next 5 months and this week's 'spare' spending money is £30

    Anyway, enough of my waffle
    Have lovely days!

I factor in holiday spending in my budget and save it monthly. We have two holidays a year so I estimate total rough costs of both which includes everything like spending money, taxis, etc, then divide that total by 12.

In fact 2 weeks today will be our first full day in PDC 😎
