Keedie said:Just caught up on your diary and it's good to see you giving cash budgeting a try. It's really opened my eyes to how wasteful I can be with my spending as it really irks me to get pennies back in change or to break a note it has to 'worth it'. Whereas I can tap all day everyday and although I can see the numbers going down, it doesn't really feel like 'real' money. I know it's a mental shift I need to make, but using cash and having sinking funds makes all the difference.
That was a good amount of credit that you had in your energy account and especially in the winter, so that's very reassuring in terms of putting the heating on without worrying. Glad your office and spare bedroom renovation all worked out as well. I need to update most of my flat, mainly in terms of repainting as changes to furniture and appliances would have to wait. Aside from me and my son's bedroom walls which we have redecorated, every wall is the same sad magnolia the council painted it when I moved here in May 2020! There's always something else that takes priority, but it's not cute and I hate looking at them. Not sure if wallpaper would be better? 🤷🏾♀️
Thanks @Keedie, I just don't seem to register how much I spend when I use my card so I'm sure the cash budgeting will make a difference.
I was surprised at the level of credit in all honesty, but definitely less worried about the heating and we actually cranked up the hot tub over the weekend and had a dip yesterday afternoon. We finished the last little bits in the office/spare room this weekend and I'm really happy with the results.
If I were decorating from a blank canvas I would definitely opt for paint rather than wallpaper... It's so faffy and then if you change your mind or come to re-decorate you have to strip it all off which is awful. There are so many lovely shades of paint, we iuse the Valspar ones from B&Q which you can get mixed, it goes on so well.Life gets in the way...PADding is addictive...Saving's better than spending...My savings diary - Now for a healthier, wealthier me2025 1p challenge #41 | Cash envelope challenge #01 | SPC #017Sealed pot 2025 £7390 | EF £1000/£1000 | Sabbatical £3677/£6000 | Travel savings £1832 | Sinking pots £31071 -
Morning! It's a slightly better morning here today, the rain is coming and going rather than a constant downpour
Hubby very kindly made plans for us tomorrow and Friday, although I have declined Friday and he can go with his friends instead. So that's it for my NSDs this month; 20. Not bad but 2 below my target so I'm a little disappointed.
Today's PAD included £5 to the sabbatical, it's dice challenge day tomorrow so I will be adding to the sealed pot in the morning. Nothing else exciting is happening here, pretty standard real life Lol.
Hope you're all doing well

Hi all, happy Wednesday.
I got in late last night and it will be the same tonight as we are out again. I will be ready for a rest at the weekend that's for sure. Perhaps I will just sleep through it
So, today isn't a NSD (again)... Target for Feb is 15 which is a bit more reasonable.
As it's Wednesday it dice challenge day and I've sent £38 to those as well as the £5 to the sabbatical. They're going quite well and so far I've not maxed out each of the dice. It's a fun way to save and keeps me engaged so I'm happy for now.
That's all from me. It'll be a busy money day tomorrow as all the bills and mortgage will come out, I do hate DD day!

Hurrah for February, we have finally seen the back of the longest month of the year...
It's DD day though for me so the mortgage has been paid and I also got my savings interest so I sent £15 to the sabbatical today. The rest of the interest went to savings.
It's already been a very busy day today, with early calls which is why I am late in posting my update. Time for a nice cup of tea and a breather before more back to back calls unfortunately. Sometimes it's hard to factor in a visit to the loo!
Not a NSD for me today, I'm out for dinner with friends and whilst I have my Mr T reward vouchers for Zizzi, a) we may not end up eating there and b) I will still have to pay for drinks. It's just been one of those spendy weeks unfortunately. I also need to put fuel in the car as that's had some hammer over the past week too... There's always something!
I hope you're all OK? Roll on 4pm tomorrow when I can have some down-time

Iiitsss F-F-F-Friday! Woohoo!
I am also having a NSD today, I'm going nowhere and spending nowt! Yesterday was spendy, I must stop meeting for dinner at the shopping mall as I always end up buying something in need, whereas I probably wouldn't have gone out specifically to buy it otherwise. So it's time to get a couple of NSDs under my belt.
I'm the counter-upper for PADding this month and we had a cracking start with yesterday's total. My PAD today was £200 to savings and £5 to the sabbatical. There's some round ups to the sealed pot from yesterday's spending but I don't really count those, I just let them accumulate
That's all from me, I am planning a restful weekend after a fairly full on week.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Morning all and happy Monday, it's set to be a lovely sunny day here in South Yorkshire...until tomorrow when the rain and wind comes again *rolls eyes*
I managed to get 2 NSD's under my belt this weekend, we were busy at home on Saturday and then yesterday we went out for lunch, but hubby decided to treat me so that was a bonusI did the grocery shopping on Saturday too, but that doesn't count. And when I left the supermarket I popped a £1 in the charity collectors bucket - but again, I'm not going to count that.
Finance wise it's been a decent weekend but I am out tonight and tomorrow night this week. No other plans for the week though so it will be quieter than last week. I have some annual leave next week as we have family coming to stay so that will no doubt be spendy.
Today's PAD was £57.20 to savings, this included envelope 51 for the envelope challenge. I need to get some big ones done as I'd filled lots of little ones in Jan. Sometimes the big ones can smart a bit
I've not updated my signature for a while so that will be my next job before another busy work day...
Take care everyone

It's been another busy morning for me with calls from an early start, there appears to be no rest for the wicked!
Not a NSD today as I am out tonight, but it will be low spend as I am driving and will only be out for a few hours. My PAD today included £5 to the sabbatical as usual. There will be more tomorrow as I will be doing my dice challenges again.
I'm also doing some scratch off challenges which I'm using for my holiday spending money which I am quite enjoying. Once they're scratched off I will re-use it by using a dice to decide which amount to save and cross off.
Have a lovely day

My evening out is cancelled so an unexpected NSD for me... every cloud has a silver lining

Good morning...It's dice savings challenge day for me... the 5 dice totalled a nice round £30 this morning, plus I have sent £5 to the sabbatical as usual.
I have a sore and swollen throat this morning, I do struggle with my throat and I'm very susceptible to tonsillitis so i will have to keep an eye out for the telltale white spots. It's typical that I get poorly when we have family coming to stayThe trouble is, I'm far too busy at work to take any time off sick.
Anyway, it's a NSD for me, I'm not venturing out so I think that makes 5 for Feb now.
I hope you're all OK
LMD x
