Just had a lovely memory from years back when reading about your sealed pots. When I used to use more cash for paying for items I used to buy those sealed tins that you buy from the likes of home b@grins and any change from notes I used to put into the sealed tins. I would open the tins just before Xmas. I was always amazed by how much I would save. Nowadays I used my banking app and have the feature to double up to the nearest pound on any transactions. So it’s basically the same but miss the suspense of the opening of the tin.
Those are the tins I have!! 6 days now and I will be arming myself with the can opener :) I like to use a mix of cash and card, as there are loads of places now where cash isn't accepted unfortunately.

Happy Friday! I had a nice day off yesterday but it was busy and social so it was a spend day and I didn't get much reading done unfortunately. I tried to drop some books off at my favourit charity shop but they aren't taking any donations at the moment so I will have to try an alternative over the weekend. Trouble is, if I'm dropping off, I will most definitely have a mooch to see if I can spy any books to add to my 'to read' pile :D

As this week hasn't been particularly expensive, I have added £51 left over budget to savings and also sent the usual £5 to the sabbatical. Not too bad this week to be honest, a last minute boost to the sealed pot Lol.

That's all from me this morning, I hope you have fabulous Fridays!

  • Morning and happy Monday peeps! I have a very busy day today but I am also feeling very under the weather, my throat is red and very sore and I've not slept at all well. DH is always telling me I never fully recover as I don't take sick time like I would in the office, I just push through and work from home unless I can't function.

Anyway, today wlll be a NSD for me, no plans after work apart from an early night! The PAD was the usual £5 to the sabbatical which is on track to reach £4k at the start of December I think, when I take into account interest payments due. Not too bad for something that's set as a low value daily auto-payment.  Definitely what I would previously have spent on office coffees...and then some probably!

I only have plans for tomorrow night this week so it should be a week where I have a decent amount of budget left to start my new sealed pot on Friday. No plans for the weekend either which is sometimes all the 'plans' you need. :)

Right, off to work I go
    Take care

  • Good morning, I hope everyone is doing OK? I'm still not feeling too well but as usual I am not resting as there's to much to do both from a work and personal perspective.

My PAD today was just the £5 to the sabbatical fund today. Nothing else happening with the accounts. It will be a final dice roll to this year's sealed pot in the morning and then it will all start again for sealed pot 2026. I think I have finalised how I want to distribute the money I have saved which will mainly be travel and re-filling sinking funds I have had to use for hubby's time off work.

Not a NSD for me today as I am off out this evening as usual on a Tuesday night. Hoping for a home win this evening but it depends how the balls fall really...

Anyway, enough from me - have fab days!

Hi Bananas! Nice to see you on here. I'm feeling a lot better this morning thank you and I think I will always do my challenges. As a family we are keen board-gamers so I love to roll dice anyway :). I do still watch Ira, he's been on quite a journey and I have invested in a planner already for 2026 from him. So pretty <3

  • Morning everyone, It's very dark this morning and I am looking forward to the clock change at the weekend, not just for the extra hour in bed! :D  Hubby is not working today so he is still in bed snoring...like the dog who is also snoring in his bed in my office.

Today is a NSD for me, yesterday was not. I was out last night and DH sent me a link (always dangerous) for something he liked and suggested it was a good birthday present. It's practical (a jacket) and was 55% off so I bought that for him. It has come out of my gifts sinking funds and will get put away until his birthday in December.

The PAD this morning was £97 and included dice rolls, change from last night and the usual sabbatical payment. A last ditch attempt to boost the sealed pot before I open and declare tomorrow.

Not had a book update for a while, I am about halfway through book 59 so I'm still doing well :)

That's about it for my updates. I will catch you all tomorrow, have great days!

I’m glad you’re feeling better. That’s the downside of WFH, you feel you have to keep going as long as you’re still breathing. I had Norovirus a couple of years ago and remember sitting there in a virtual meeting and having to keep having to dash to the loo every so often.

Also glad to hear your DH is making good progress. The birthday present sounds like a great bargain and something you can tick off your list.

I didn’t realise the clocks go back this weekend, still thought it was weeks off yet. I’ll be counting down to the shortest day, then say what I always say to everybody, “ that’s it now, we are heading to summer”. Even tho it’s pitch black at 4 in the afternoon.

That’s a good offer for the jacket, hate paying full price for anything.

  • Morning all and happy Thursday, 'tis miserable weather here today and I will be making the most of my day off by curling up on the sofa with a cuppa and my book once I have finished the housework!  I've started book 60 at breakfast this morning too! Go me!

My PAD today was £5 to the sabbatical. Accounts are OK-ish considering we both get paid early next week, although still not sure what will be happening with DH wages. It's a NSD for me today, I will be popping to the post office to pay in money but other than that I'm staying where it's nice and dry :D

So, it's sealed pot declaration day and I have counted all my savings and coins... the total is £8038.51 which is bloody brilliant and miuh more than I would ever have expected when I started. So, it's all being redistributed today and then I will start again tomorrow. I had to leave £10 in the pot where I save to keep it open and there's £46.06 in coin change which aren't complete bags so I will probable start with that as my base amount.

I'm feeling pleased and I am thankful I take part in the sealed pot as it means Christmas, Black Friday, spending money for Nov holiday (for both of us) and my 2 planned holidays next year are covered. It definitely takes the stress of these costs away for me - and I have fun whilst doing it.

That's all from me today. I'm off to the post office to bank my change :)
