  • Gas consumption in kWh was identical to the Eon Next EAC from latest bill and electricity was within 2%.  But Eon Next's EAC for gas (6359kWh) is a bit off compared to what I actually used in the last year (5833kWh).  Compared to our neighbours with the same type of house (bungalow) we are seemingly using a lot less gas but a little more electricity.

Thanks @RavingMad What a great tool!
Mine is pretty accurate.  Compared to my neighbours I'm using 44% less elec and 25% less gas.  I've checked out a couple of local properties that are the same size as mine and I'm using significantly less energy.  It kind of validates my choices!

Very surprised that, for my 5 bed detached, the usage figures are almost spot on with my current expected figures at 3600kwh elec. and 14000kwh gas, especially as I put the neighbour's (smaller) house in and his consumption came out higher than mine !!!
  • Although my own figures from Meerkat are pretty accurate, I find it very hard to believe that near neighbours in an almost identical sized property are using 23,700 kWh of electricity on top of 11,000 kWh gas per annum.

These figure are for a bog standard 3-bed semi in the SE of England and are estimated to cost £800 per month !

Of course, they could be running an electric arc furnace in the back garden, Bitcoin Mining or running a cannabis farm - but most likely there's a glitch/flaw in the data gathering that somehow spooks figures for some properties.

It's actually quite funny that so many (money savers) on this forum can't believe how much their neighbours use.

Well we spend a bit more, but given we’ve got ancient double glazing I’m not surprised.

One of our neighbours is on a BG standard variable tariff, I didn’t know those still existed.

Virtually everyone is on a standard variable tariff these days, unless they're lucky enough to be still on a fixed tariff taken out a long time ago.
New fixed tariffs are very rare at the moment and are probably not advisable because rates are expected to fall soon.

Ah, all the ones I’m aware of are called something like [Provider] Flex.  I do know people who (pre energy price rises) just refused to change provider!

Wait for the smart meter conspiracy theorist to get a hold of this one.

Although I suspect the usage accuracy is there for manual reads as well.
    Ours are all manual :)

General comment: I wonder if the unbelievable figures are a) from one or two particular suppliers and/or b) based on grossly inaccurate estimates for people who don't have smart meters (or communicating smart meters) and don't give readings.  We know that some suppliers are nonsensically shoddy at calculating Direct Debits so I wonder if they've applied the same ridiculously lax maths to usage estimates too.

I remember a few years ago the Ebico site used to tell you who the supplier was from entering the postcode and house number. Although this seems to do that too along with consumption.
