I tried the links provided, but was unable to see where to compare with other households.  Anyone one with a specific link to the service?
You put the households postcode and number in to see what they are using. You can't side by side compare you do your searches individually.

We dramatically cut our usage over the last 6 months and that's reflected here, it's pretty much the exact figure Octopus put on the last bill for the annual estimate.
This; my figure precisely matches the annual estimate GEUK put on the new tariff letter last month.  In my case, that's roughly my annual usage 12 months ago, and does not reflect recent usage cuts.

I definitely don’t think this should be in the public domain - anonymised for the average of ten neighbours, maybe?

I have just done mine and the estimated annual usage quoted matches exactly for Gas and Electricity in kWh shown on my latest bill from 3 days ago.

The figures on the latest bill have changed from the previous bill.

Next step is to ask Octopus how the Meercat knows this information?

Edit: I am using way less than a typical household for a 4 bed detached house and have reduced my usage over the last 2 years.

Presumably there is a requirement for providers to share this to make it easy for people to get an estimate for switching.  But it’s giving information that could be used by conmen - imagine a little old lady answering the door to a plausible someone with a clipboard who knows her supplier is British Gas and even which tariff she’s on and what she’s paying each month?

Wonder why some are almost correct and others miles out
Even broken clocks are correct twice a day, if enough people only look once it won't be long before some people start seeing a time that is almost right.

Edit: I wrote this before I saw @EssexHebridean reply to the same effect, great minds think alike or fools seldom differ?

The usage and supplier information for our house is correct but (because they don't know the precise tariff we are on) the cost is way out.

In my experience of conning little old ladies this information isn't really accurate enough to be of much use. It's as likely to alert them to the fact that I'm up to no good as it is to help me.

Ok a bit tongue in cheek but I'm sure you get the point, there are much easier ways.

No, I don’t think it’s broken clock syndrome.  I have looked at our neighbours who have the air heating pumps and their electricity is three times what ours is so it is correct to some degree.  We are very low users and that is reflected too.

Wait for the smart meter conspiracy theorist to get a hold of this one.

Although I suspect the usage accuracy is there for manual reads as well.

Interestingly ours was circa 25-30% out. Based on our last year with Eon Next. Even more surprisingly Eon Next appears to have used this higher than usage is figure for calculating our next 12 months direct debit rather than using the smart meter readings they obtained in the last 12 months....very poor imo
