Decisions to be made.

We have to make a decision on a choice of Anti Virus. It looks as though it's between AVG and AVAST, both these being free. One which is free for the 1st year is McAfee, but have decided for various reasons to use either of the first two.
Maybe if you have experience of these, you might like to contribute and pro's/cons.

Anti-Vir is the best free anti virus money can be for me
1) Low resource usage
2) Reliable updating
3) Scanning which doesnt slow down your pc immensley (Unlike AVG)
4) Highest Virus/Trojan detection than any other virus scanner (as shown in tests)[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

At least get one Anti-Virus, whichever one you choose, quickly.
I have used Free AVG for years without any problems.0 -
I used AVG for many years and was very happy with it. I then tried Avast and didn't like it at all. Now I use Anti-Vir and am very plesed with it.
The only thing I don't like is when it updates you get a lrage pop-up suggesting you upgrade, not a problem except when I'm in the middle of a game.
So personally my recommendation at the moment would be Anti-Vir first, then AVG, then AvastIt's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Plus, it doesn't scan emails or contain Webguard(web scanning), so don't get over-excited.
One of the reasons that people like Avast is that they had a Resident Scanner before any of the other free anti-virus programmes.
I would try Avast, then AVG if I had NO money.0 -

Yes it does.
While you surf files are downloaded. It scans all files downloaded using its live scanner. Thus if there is a malicious file downloaded to your temp directory it will be picked up...
This is a virus scanner. Its simple, it works, and I can't believe you sound so against it?!?!?! Its VERY well respected and reviewed...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

What live scanner is that? Is that the Webguard that is not included with the Free version or something else?
What about the POP3 scanning ability? There is none.0 -
Avast came much lower than AVG in some recent comparative tests in PC Pro, I used to use Avast, but found AVG to be more effective, faster and have a much better auto update system.0

Dear me Donnie you really are being a bit awkward aren't you? What's your problem?
Do you understand that when you go on a website the files are downloaded to your Temp directory?
If so, do you understand that the free version scans files (live) in that temp directory?
And if so then what the heck are you on about! Its a free virus scanner, it scans files on your pc including ones downloaded from wbe pages, and allows you to delete viruses incredibly easy! Yet here you are sounding incredibly angry at me for trying to help rofl!
A lot of teccys use this application for a reason.. stop trying to find holes and just accept others suggestions *sigh*[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
