I have still received no club lloyds card months after upgrading as a new customer.
I've found it's a bit hit and miss with LBG and new debit cards. When I upgraded my first Lloyds account to Club Lloyds last spring (4-5 months after opening), they never sent me a new card. When I upgraded the Lloyds classic account I opened in January this year into a Club Lloyds account (earlier this month) they decided to send me a new one.

Halifax did a similar thing. when they converted my old expresscash account into a current account I got a new card. When I upgraded the same account to a reward account nearly a year later they didn't bother.
There was some discussion previously in the thread suggesting it depended how old your card was at time of upgrade. ie if the card you already had was pretty new you would not get a another new card.

I really don’t like these new design cards all the banks are pushing out. Gonna try and keep my old style Lloyds Platinum card for as long as possible…
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • I am afraid cards will get more and more flimsy until they are no longer issued at all by default. This will likely occur within the next five years as mobile payments become more common.

I think your timelines are a bit off. As far as I know, no ATMs, Post Offices or branches yet accept digital wallet based debit cards.

I can see the digital only banks (Monzo, Chase, maybe Starling) doing making debit cards opt-in only but not the high street issuers.
I am pretty sure Santander ATM have contactless but I am not sure if it is enabled. As for other banks I do not know.

All our cash machines have contactless so you can just tap your card and enter your PIN.
One would imagine it is possible to allow this to work with mobile contactless. Santander and Natwest/RBS already allow cash withdrawal without a card as long as you have the app.

However the bank will argue cash is hardly used anymore, so if you still wish to retain access to a card, you will need to request it. I think in five years time that will be very possible.
