Good job sensible users are perfectly capable of only retaining then relevant portion of a quote rather than the whole lot.

But none is this is relevant to Agile...

Not relevant to Agile - agreed. But if say  I want to refer back to more than one previous quote that's when life gets complicated!

There's more than one way of doing it. But I'd much prefer to say something like "Ref posts ref # 14 and # 16 .."   rather than faf around quoting and amending great chunks of text. Disagree if you will

Not really - you just quote...type what you need to below, then

...type some more, and so on.

You can even as said earlier, to shorten a quote, edit it...

    <snip> Disagree if you will
    I will...

As already said, the risk otherwise is that you quote post #14 only then the writer of post #12 decides to delete, and suddenly nobody knows WHAT you're talking about.

The lesser of the two evils. You can fault any system if you will. I've witnessed the "# ref" system in other situations and can only state my preference for an easy life. One doesn't exclude the other and I don't really understand the objection.
I will delete much of this corresp once we have achieved some measure of agreement. Trunp are you on message?
