As far as I understand, the data gets pulled from the meter into some kind of central repository which is available to all energy suppliers.  For various complicated historical reasons, this is done in several different ways depending on how old your meter is, and where you live.

Octopus then does a mass pull of the data into their systems.  If Octopus triggers this before your data is in the “cloud”, the data will be missing.   If this happens to me I usually wait a week or so and if it’s still missing then I ping Octopus (on Twitter!) and they usually fix it within a few hours.
DCC doesn't cache anything, it just there to standardize secure access to your hub..
OK sorry this was not my understanding.  So you are saying that if a day is missing, it’s because my individual comms hub decided not to respond when Ocotpus asked for the data?  I am confused because I have an app called Bright which also shows my meter data, and sometimes it shows the data, even when it’s missing on Octopus.
Bright and the other apps pull the data at different times, and they are also at liberty to do it better if they wish.

IMO they shouldn't be allowed to get away with this it's very shoddy. The only good excusefor gaps is long term failure or data corruption

If thats the case a certain website needs updating, as I read it, and it gives the impression the meters push data to DCC, then the suppliers fetch from DCC.

My Tracker gas account has had regular failures of data. Every month since joining Tracker, there has been at least one period each month lasting around 2.5 days where data was missing. Octopus have never recovered this missing data until I have notified them that it was missing. They seem totally unable to discover why this happens and to fix it.

There has been no problem at all with electricity.

Octopus previously told  me they request missing readings from DCC, instance I was referring to Octopus said was not possible to do so. ( I left and returned, missing readings related to when I left.)

I contacted DCC asking if anything Octopus said was not correct lol

"As Data Communications Company, we provide a secure, smart, data network  and connectivity to enable our customers (your energy supplier) to remotely manage their metering estate. We don't have access or visibility of your account details or encrypted data of the meter due to security reason.

As a network operator, we are unable to help you directly, however, we have contacted your energy supplier Octopus, and requested them to investigate this case, try to obtain the missing readings and contact you to provide an update of this case"

I don't think the advisors know the finer details of how it all works.

As far as I'm aware they are basically sending a request to the meter to pull the data.

Although technically they're actually telling an adaptor to do that (TMA) - a third party company e.g. TMA write the software that octopus use to read the meters. Other suppliers may use other adapters/companies.

Wether that request has to be sent to the DCC and then onto the adapter, or wether it just goes through the DCC to get to the adapter, who knows.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter. Octopus try to get the readings every so often (automated fix) and can manually try that too.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

They did say when I contacted them last night to let them know if it didn't appear within 48 hours because that may indicate a fault.

Are you on smart meters for both fuels (unlike me)?  I'm in the middle of a major account sort out with Octopus and it's just conceivable that me being on non-smart for gas could have something to do with it.
