I'm glad I got off Agile. I think most people on Agile would be better off going on to Tomato Lifestyle - at least over the winter. I have 5h at 5p/kWh overnight, 4h at 14p/kWh in the day, and a peak of only 23.26p/kWh ( 0.5p/kWh below Octopus Flexible); the standing charge is 42.9 p compared with 54.8p on Agile Dec 2023.

What about when Tomato go bust, next week, when they get the spot prices bill?
As I've said before, if you do the accounting properly, Agile isn't necessarily as cheap as people think it is based on the output of the Compare app. For me it's not far enough below the price cap for SOLR to be much of a threat.
  • Thanks for the comments re: Tomato's 'Agile' rates.  It's not something I'm even considering, it really was just idle curiosity.

(If they get to a year of having been consistently competent I might consider them, but it appears they haven't even started being competent yet.)

Tomato however seems to be cheap, and a mess to boot. Checked the Facebook user group, they seem to be offering to write off some bills and reduce others when they can finally read SMETS1 meters. Given the proportion of SMETS 1 meters installed,.this is going to be significant and if they can't bill for use, their cash flow is significantly screwed.

Given Tomato can't even manage to read adopted SMETS1 meters, not something that should be difficult,  I suspect they little competence and won't be around in 6 months time.
The don't have to be around for anything like 6 months, for me to be better off, and if I go on SOLR tomorrow and rejoin Agile in March it's not that bad anyway. If they survive, it's a 12 months fix, and Agile could go anywhere over Winter. IMO Agile not improving poses the greater risk.

They had stopped accepting SMETS1 by the time I joined.

No write off, you still need to pay standing charge if you decide to leave (they could easily charge the lowest possible amount of 5p, but they don't). Write off if you wait 12 months and there's no bill but that's unlikely as you can see many people just spamming with bills now.
And they also take more and more customers onboard although limited to SmEts2 only.
    Fingers crossed.

This market really needs stronger TOU competition - so it will help Octopus customers too.

I ve just run through all my kWh billing rates on the excellent  Octopus app this year on Agile and I reckon they are the cheapest possible rates available in the UK if you are " Agile " So I will face tomorrow and Fridays challenge  and be very very agile about my usage . Not sure what I ve used today but I doubt its much more than 3 kWh .
As Martin Lewis said on his TV prog  Agile users are sophisticated and it's not suitable  for everyone .

Tracker gas is   also probably the lowest rates possible too over the year available
  • We ran the dishwasher overnight so at the time of leaving the house this morning were in the region of 3p up on where we would have been had we been on SVR - I did comment to MrEH that he ought to make the most of it as that was the only time today we'd be seeing that!

At a quick estimation, I reckon we were roughly 45p down for yesterday.

It's one of those days when I'm grateful for the solar and batteries - while there isn't much generation today, we've had to do some urgent laundry (currently on load 3) which would have been very expensive. Battery is taking most of the heavy load and the very small amount of solar is providing enough for the non-heating parts of the cycle. I'll end the day with less battery than I'd planned for, but it has helped avoid the what could have been a considerable expense. I'm not saying that this forms part of the business case for the battery (I think I've repeatedly stated that the battery is for resilience so I can work through power cuts - and the ROI on that vs. travelling to work/not being paid is easily justifiable), but the battery does help flatten the cost curve on days like today.

Be some respite tomorrow based on early pricing, peak wholesale is half that of yesterday. Still high though.
