I'm glad I got off Agile. I think most people on Agile would be better off going on to Tomato Lifestyle - at least over the winter. I have 5h at 5p/kWh overnight, 4h at 14p/kWh in the day, and a peak of only 23.26p/kWh ( 0.5p/kWh below Octopus Flexible); the standing charge is 42.9 p compared with 54.8p on Agile Dec 2023.

What about when Tomato go bust, next week, when they get the spot prices bill?
Is there any indication they will go bust next week?

Worst case, customers are put onto SVT and may have some frustration as they are moved to another supplier.

Well, we don't know that they won't.
The high wholesale prices over the next couple of days might challenge the financial viability of suppliers who haven't agreed long-term supply contracts and are relying on buying their electricity on the spot market. I've no idea if this includes Tomato or not, but it did for some of the challenger energy companies "back in the day".

Sure but back then prices were going up and up, every single slot of the day, here we're talking 2-3 days and not even full days - just the day part that's above 40p they'll be at loss.
I think they must have some long term deals as otherwise how would you be able to offer 5p periods? Octopus is fully green, they're not, probably buying all the unwanted overnight electricity from incinerators..

But if they go bust, worst that could happen is being back billed to SVR even for the 5p periods which could be annoying.
  • Is switching to Tomato really worth the concern and  hassle and uncertainty when you tot up what the net savings come to, not at the end of the day, week or month but at the end of the "season"?  If you want your thrills I'd imagine that at the present time Agile could oblige.

Bunging a couple more candles in the care box along with some reusable hand warmers. Also have a large fluffy cat you can borrow as long as you don't mind the claws.
It's at times like this when I very much miss having a cat...or a small dog come to that, although they tend to me more wriggly!

Predict is entertaining today as the trace overlay shows quite how far they underestimated things!

Still, I'm C£5 up for the month at the moment, and a few rubbish days won't reverse that!

Just back from the vets and I can confirm that cats are most definitely not a good money saving option!  Booked in for £700 of dental treatment in January. If she was a household appliance I'd probably say "better to get a new one" but it doesn't really work like that with pets :-)

On the plus side, it's an ill (lack of) wind that blows noboday any good. The sky high prices mean there's a worthwhile savings session and as a Flux customer with a battery I should make a couple of quid this evening. Just £698 to go then......

I have a no fee rental agreement with my neighbour's cat - he comes in and warms himself and me and then either goes home or gets kicked out.  He is a bit bitey and can't be relied on but is a good chair/lap warmer when he feels like it.

Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.

As a non-EV yet to be converted no-battery man with just solars, I'd be interested to know how strong a  financial argument you were able to put to your (doubting?) self  in favour of investing in a battery.

Can highly recommend the greyhound heated duvet, sadly they do require feeding and have almost as many jumpers as me

Given Tomato can't even manage to read adopted SMETS1 meters, not something that should be difficult,  I suspect they little competence and won't be around in 6 months time.
