This is very much an "each to their own" isn't it - but it definitely doesn't suit me to power down my entire house for a day just to save a few pennies. I guess it depends if someone has a really significant background load though?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
Balance as at 01/09/23 = £115,000.00 Balance as at 31/12/23 = £112,000.00

My base load which includes two fridges, router, TV on standby, all the little items like google speaker, 6 smart socket/devices is under 100W, so even during yesterday crazy expensive time 16-19 would use about 15p (probably less as putting fridges back on will consume more power later).
So it really depends on the reason, to save money.. will 15p really make a difference?
To be greener? People donate money to green causes / volunteer.. this combines both - saves moeny as well.0 -
Re not replacing a telly, I wouldn't assume a larger screen will necessarily mean more power consumption. I watch a lot of telly as often house bound, my old living room tv was bought in 2011 and replaced earlier this year. It was a 40 inch screen and I swear heated the room a fair few degrees over the day. I replaced it with another 40 inch which has barely noticeable heat output. I didn't look at the power consumption of the old one before I threw it and it was pre moving to Octopus and so I can't tell from their graphs, but I'd be amazed if the new telly isn't contributing to my 20% lower electricity usage this year. I needed one either way.0

Yesterday was the first time since I went on Agile in February this year that it cost me more than Flexible ( only by 8p ). I can live with that.1

Yesterday used 0.94kw at a grand total of 22p (usually up to 1.5kw at up to 27p) so that worked out fine, back to normal today. My nine year old 40 inch LED has eco mode and a still brilliant picture, consumes 40W on HDMI, whilst the Firestick and hifi amp consume 35W, BTW but is showing signs of age, I want to get ten years out of it as it cost a whopping £160 from Sainsbury's. I am sure brand new ones consume a bit less power and if they actually have a decent sound could turn the amp off.0

Turning off at the wall is something my in laws do with telly / router etc.
If I turned off/unplugged every plug/device in our house it's be like painting the Forth bridge, as soon as I'd finished it'd be time to plug them all in again.....2
