Escape to the country & living off savings

  • I forgot to turn the thermostat down when I went to bed last night and woke up at 3am red hot (17.5 degrees)

Eventually got back to sleep but feeling tired today. Tip run later.

I am trying to empty the fridge before I go away so I am having gammon, eggs, mushrooms & tinned tomatoes for breakfast today. 2 eggs scrambled for breakfast tomorrow.

I have courgettes, peppers, half a butternut squash to use up so I will roast them with onions & garlic and freeze any leftovers. That should leave half a cucumber and some fresh tomatoes to use up so I will have those with a tin of tuna from my store cupboard. That leaves half a pot of natural yoghurt and some grated cheese. I will have some of the roasted Mediterranean veg with fajita spice, natural yoghurt and cheese. I can use some natural yoghurt mixed with the tuna instead of mayo. That just leaves apples and no added sugar jelly’s for snacks / puddings.

Tip run done. Car filled up at the cheap garage (1.379 ppl) £35 from holiday pot. Still had about £5 left in it from £10 I put in earlier in the week (1.419 ppl) Not a huge saving but as I was passing the cheaper garage on the way to the tip it seemed silly not to.

Plans to empty the fridge are working well. Leftover gammon frozen. Ate some roasted veg & rest frozen. I have a batch frozen curry for dinner tonight. Tomatoes and cucumber to use up today for lunch with tuna & remaining cheese.

I will check air in my tyres this morning and check oil & screen wash.

Going to see my friend this afternoon and have cake to take with me 😋 🍰

That was absolutely phenomenal meal planning to run down food. Have you snacks sorted for the drive, perhaps an apple and bit of cake?

Glad to hear the summer house is going, your garden will feel a lot bigger without it.

Enjoy your catch-up and holiday ☺️

  • Fab even your leftovers sound delish & inspired me to take a look in my fridge & see what can be salvaged into something resembling tasty , there's at least a bag of carrots & whole cabbage lurking in there!! Good price on petrol , cheapest I can source here is 144.9 p/l & those pennies def make a difference wen filling up . Enjoy your time away SYA  , come back refreshed & to a bigger garden x

  • Thanks MF, @thriftylynny and @doingitanyway

MF I will take a bottle of water with me but will probably buy some lunch. I usually have a naughty mc D or k fc 😆

Thriftylynny I love cabbage and depending on what type it is you could maybe use some with some grated carrots and make coleslaw.

Lovely to see you back dia. Hope you find somewhere soon to relax and call home

I have now arrived back home up north after a lovely holiday thanks @[Deleted User]

I arrived down south safely after a decent 5 hour drive just in time to walk the dogs in the rain 😆

Wed was a lovely warm sunny day. Went for a walk with my no dogs friend along the seafront. Parked on the free section. Went out with some of my old work friends for dinner in the evening and had a lovely catch up. £21 food & drinks.

Thu met up with a friend I met when I did an evening class & she had a meer cat voucher for prez zo £13 each
Friday evening met up with no dogs friend and our group of girl friends in local pub for dinner and drinks spent £30. Walked there and back.

sat was showery, went shopping with old friends I met when I first moved down south & had lunch & drink £13.25 then after browsing the shops had tea & cake £7.25. 😋 Caught the bus there & back £2 each way & cheaper than parking.

sunday lovely sunny day, cold wind, walked in the forest with DS & gf and dogs. They treated us to hot chocolate and cake from the forest van. Then we went out in the evening for carvery £12 each which I paid for

monday - met my friend who used to live in the next road & moved away, together with 2 dogs friend. We are part of the girls group but they couldn’t make it on Friday. Lunch and soft drink £12.35

Petrol £35.33 plus some already in car £5/£6. Plus bought whilst there £20 and fill up to come home £32.95.

Have used the entertainment fund for food and some of the holiday fund.

A lovely week catching up with friends and lovely food 😁

Also bought 2 new pairs of jeans in Mr T £39 and £19 on 3 x T-shirts / tops in
mat alan. Paid from household bills pot.

Old school friend moved my summer house to their house while I was away. Called at her house this afternoon for cuppa and to see it now rebuilt in her garden. My garden now looks huge & base is clear to move free metal shed from next door over the weekend.

Called in on way back to see DF. He has sealed the inside of my back door while I have been away. We are going out wed or thursday to get paint for my kitchen before the bank holiday weekend 😊

Approx 5 hour drive home. Tired now, early night I think 😴

Wow sounds like you had a great time - your friends and family made the most of having you there! Sounds like a really lovely trip.

Welcome home SYA - so glad the summerhouse is gone so you can move forward with the metal shed - sounds like DF might have a job Easter weekend?? 😉😊👍🏻
