Best price for heating oil?

Hi Everyone,
I work for an Oil Company and thought I'd share a little of what I know about the market/pricing.
Market: Mid-Longterm Downward trend due to the increasing strength of the dollar which tends to be a negative for Oil.
Prices are good at the moment, although remember to keep an eye on Iran. If they started playing funny and threatened to shut the straits of Hormuz, we could see a short-term rise. DO NOT panic buy.
Summer months always tend to be a typically good time to buy, especially when the weather is hot. The reason for this being: there is less fuel being brought, and companies have to give sharper prices in order to get your business.
So a general rule of thumb: If the weather is hot, look at buying.
I'm sure most of you here are savvy when it comes to pricing, but remember it can sometimes be worth going with a regular distributor (Especially independents (Family run companies for example)) as the service tends to be better.
If for example you have run out, the best an internet company can do is next day (And only then if the order is placed before 15:00 the day before), as they have no vehicles of their own, they outsource their orders to suppliers.
Going direct with a supplier, good companies can tend to do same day deliveries, and I know we do it regularly in our company.
The other point to consider is that internet companies still need to make a profit, they do not exist as Not-for-profit organisations. Whatever profit they makes comes out of the suppliers margins, meaning the savings aren't always as significant as they may seem.
Any questions, leave me a message, I'd be happy to help.0 -
Thanks for that suggestion OG!!
So since it is currently 25C outside ordered some oil @57.5 ppl +VAT. That is for 500 litres, better than the last order @65 ppl early last December.
The supplier is J&J Fuels in Boston Lincolnshire; my usual supplier Watsons, wanted 65 ppl for 500 litres.0 -

Has anyone any inside knowledge here? I was cold called a year or so back by my usual oil supplier and some wise soul (possibly even a commenter on this forum) made the comment that if they cold call you, they know a price drop is coming. He turned out to have been very right - the price soon dropped quite markedly!
Any views abut where it's heading now?0 -
