If I don't buy any oil, I will have no heating at all and will have to use the immersion heater for hot water. We're doing what we can to cut down our oil usage, of course.

As a supplier of wood fuel we are being inundated with requests for firewood with the ever increasing price of oil. But heres a word of warning to all of you considering this as an alternative. Firewood has been relatively cheap as in most homes it has never been considered essential. Firewood is in effect the low end product of the timber market and has always been given away. the price being paid at the moment just about covers the cost of production. Increased fuel costs means higher production and transport costs the days for cheap firewood are numbered and so if your buying from a merchant expect to pay double your current price by feb. of this year. Personally i view central heating as a luxury and not essential so have stopped buying oil. We managed without it years ago and we can again. Ok a 1 man stand is not going to push the price of heating oil down but I hate being ripped off which seems to be a tradition in this country that we all tollerate. Join me and just dont buy the stuff, somethings got to give.

To be fair though, oil isn't ever increasing is it? Oil prices have fallen sharply in recent weeks. Are we to assume outright profiteering from suppliers such as yourselves now demand is higher? You are really thinking a doubling of wood prices? Are you taking the !!!!?

We don't like being ripped off either! Especially by wood merchants proposing to double wood prices on the excuse of ever increasing oil prices (which have fallen sharply)......

Lowest quote I can get in 39.9p and most are still over 40p and that is after a week of falling oil prices. I will wait until next week now. It is just a game really!!

Hmmm... they delivered this morning at the agreed 38.5p + vat price, and crude is actually lower now than when I ordered ... but so is the pound, so maybe that's why it's dearer for you?

Who knows - might be 30p next week:rotfl:

I have been ringing around this afternoon and the best price I can get is £262.00 all inc for 500 litres!!!!!! I am in the Norfolk/Suffolk area - has anyone else got better prices recently? Would appreciate a list of Companies if you have. Thankyou.

try boilerjuice.com . they supply the whole of the uk and northern ireland. There price today for 500 ltrs was £189 ! That is 0.37 pence per ltr plus the 5% VAT.
    Thats a brilliant price...:j

Boilerjuice is never any good where I live - best price today for 500ltrs 45.70p + VAT = £239.93 + £3.78 credit card surcharge

    or for 1500ltrs = £707.01 - £101 more than I paid 2 weeks ago.

  • Does anybody know (for sure) how long it tends to take home heating oil prices to reflect the current crude oil price? Does it lag behind by some weeks? With crude oil now below $50 per barrel, I would have expected heating oil prices to drop. Indeed, the graph on Boiler juice led me to expect a price of around 41p/litre. However, a quote from them was over 48p per litre! How long should we wait before the price of heating oil will drop to reflect the current economic climate?

When you are going on about prices here look at some other factors.

    For arguements sake

    1. When you were paying last Feb/March at it was around 40ppl and the barrell was say $60 - $70.

Did the cost of oil rise at the same price as crude when crude was over $150 to a massive 80ppl+.

    Answer No.

Yes the price has dropped so has the exchange rate of dollars to the pound.

At beginning of the month it was 1.60 to the £, now its 1.49 to the £.

This decreases the impact of the barrell price.

So basacially the price didnt rise in accordance to the price of the barrell as it should have done and thus the decrease isnt as much as it looks. Its going back to way it was and exactly the same price.

Good news anyway VAT is coming down and although higher earn will be taxed more they can afford it.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
