Last time I flew that Irish airline, the 2 ladies in the seats in front of us (who had paid for their specific seats) got moved to make way for a party of 3 adults and 3 small children who were the last ones on the flight and 'needed to sit together'.
That is stated in the 'Irish' airlines T&C's.
Annoying for the 2 ladies though.

I don't know if you would class this as a "ridiculous add-on" but I really resent having to pay a booking fee (Theatre or cinema) when I've booked online & (in many cases) had to print tickets using my paper & ink. It's particularly galling when there would have been no booking fee had I been able to get to the Box Office in person & there was face-to-face service involved & an actual ticket!

Why did the 2 ladies have 3 seats?

Maybe they knew that they needed 1.5 seats each.

They were sat next to each other then they aisle seat was free. The 3 seats across the aisle had 1 person sat there.
The 3 adults insisisted they and their 3 children had to sit together hence why the ladies were moved. I don't know if the single person had paid for their specific seat or  not.
I just find it poor by the family for not arriving in good time (my parents managed it with 4 of us) and poor by Ryanair to move people who paid extra for a specific seat.

Does VAT / GST count as the most ridiculous add on you've had to pay?

May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.

A pub near me has a steak and wine deal, with a £2 surcharge to swap the meat for a vegan cauliflower 'steak'. That's a large slice of grilled cauliflower, for anyone unaware. In no way does that cost more than steak.

Can't comment on the ingredient cost for the American milkshake place, but it seems very odd they don't do a vegan oreo shake!

I expect it's because they have to keep separate pans, utensils, and oil for cooking it, plus procedures/training/oversight and legalities.

Local shop have some beers on the shelf, and some in the fridge. If you buy a pack from the fridge they charge an extra 50p 'towards the electricity'!

A hotel I stayed in during the Covid times had closed their kitchen due to a staff shortage, so they were advising people to order takeaways via Deliveroo which you could eat in the bar. So I did. I was surprised, when checking out, to see they had added a £1.50 service charge to my bill. When I enquired why, it was to cover the cost of the receptionist telling me my takeaway had arrived, and washing up the knife and fork I borrowed to eat it with...

When I was at the coast I was charged an extra 5p with my fish and chips, to cover the cost of the little wooden fork.

I have noticed on the 3+ rewards app (where you can get discounted Cineworld tickets weekly) they do the hard sell on the booking online with associated fee of 75/95p and only mention right at the end that you can book at the cinema, and more importantly, omit the fact that there is no cost in doing so.

Don't know about you but I've never felt the need to book cinema tickets online.

I guess it could make sense if you're wanting to get there on opening night, but for me I always wait for a later screening when there are less people and the fuss has died down. I'm happy to roll up and take my chances.
