Many moons ago went to a cafe for two teas to take away (three sugars and none).
I went to pay and it was a odd amount, so queried it and was told they charge extra for more than two sugars.
I pointed out there was only three sugars in two cups so the average was below two.
The guy wasn't having none of it and insisted I pay for the extra sugar.
I just said keep them and walked out with the teas on the counter.

Using their logic they should lower the price if, like me, you don’t take sugar  :D

Not an add on as such but when booking some hotels recently (decent 4 star ones) in the room facilities included they have listed “toilet paper”. It seems strange this is being called out as if it’s an added feature you are lucky to receive.
Well, perhaps they like to be clear, especially post-COVID.

We stayed away for a couple of weeks during the EOHO-era and the hotel had made some changes "because of COVID" - these included no cleaning service mid-stay.  That meant no toilet roll replenishment, as confirmed when we had to ask at the front desk.  We ended up visiting the supermarket to buy a pack of toilet rolls.

Mind you, that hotel was rather odd as the bed was extra - I wrote a thread on it at the time:

Hi @Grumpy_Chap I read your other thread about the hotel bed and did you ever get round to writing the trip advisor review, as you didn’t link to one?

    I didn't.
It was COVID and hotels were suffering so didn't need to be kicked while down.

We went to Morrisons last week for breakfast.  Instead of putting the sachets of sauces out they dished them out, one to a customer.  When my friend asked for more I stuck my head in the kitchen and asked politely.  One person said “if you want more it will be 20p” then another said “they’ve had 2, they can have one more free”.

This wasn’t the only nit picking.  They’d run out of fresh tomatoes and couldn’t use the ones on the shelf as they were more expensive :disappointed:

Apparently this parsimonious behaviour has been common since Morrisons was bought out by an American company
You mean private equity? Nothing good ever comes of it for clients or employees.

I think in part it is also down to the employees just doing what they are told, and having no common sense, for fear of being chastised by management.

Not an add-on as such but places since after covid putting in spurious charges under the guise of 'covid safety' but in reality it was just a ruse to get some cash off punters.

For example at Winter Wonderland you pretty much have to pay entry now (unless you want to go at some unsocial hour where everyone is at work).

Before covid, the entry was free and you could soak up the atmosphere and no doubt would spend an arm and a leg in the Bavarian beer tent, rides, hot dog stalls etc if you wanted to.

However, now with the timed entry and pretty much unavoidable entry fee a lot of us who used to go haven't bothered. I bet the prices aren't any cheaper either inside.
  • Extra £10 added to hair cut years ago for ‘long hair’ fee. It wasn’t ling enough to donate , just not shaved into my head. Young, stupid and naive I paid it. You live and learn !

Legoland parking fee (which I see is now £10) - they are situated in the middle of nowhere so driving is required.

You have already paid a ridiculous amount for park tickets and will be fleeced for every drink and item of food while there, and kids will be looking at Lego sets that are much cheaper on Amazon...but the idea of delayed gratification is an alien concept.

I know you can save up vouchers, use Tesco points, etc....but the parking fee is just the final insult.......rant over  :)

We've been to Legoland (Windsor) a couple of times over the years, and have taken buses and taxis rather than drive.

A month's cancellaton fee being charged when I cancelled my burglar alarm contract after 25 years when we moved house. Apparently it was in the contract I signed originally........  I'd been paying quarterly to cover any callouts, and an annual service. I think I called them out twice in 25 years, and the last callout had been at least 15 years earlier. I pointed out what a sour taste that left and that I'd previously been happy to recommend them to others. They coughed up and refunded me the month.
