(Perhaps I should phrase that as “hopefully the apology has given you peace of mind?” 😆)
I think it's `locked' after a while?

Sorted via PM, but I apologise here too - my initial post was a slip in judgement, and the results are exactly why I thought better of it! But alas I was too slow in realising and deleting it 🤦

Hope I haven't upset you today, was slow at work and posted more than I should have, maybe.1 -

Considering @Deleted_User got the answer he needed on page 5 for the certification of his meter not running out til 2035 this post certainly took a turn for 11 pages.
Just goes to show how emotive smart meters are to energy junkies. We are in this category btw.
Accusations of socks, puppets and account shenanigans. (Not adverse to this myself lol would love to catch a fake duplicate account) Almost as out there as the theories and misinformation on smart meters.1 -
I've got a little confused by this conversation, so apologies if I have missed something.
The OP identified that their electricity meter is good for a while yet; was it established how long the gas meter had left on its validity? Could the gas meter have been the trigger for the letter from Octopus, and not the ancient, but still going strong electricity meter?

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.2 -

We haven't been able to establish gas meter certification period as there doesn't appear to be a corresponding document for those, just the Schedule 4 list for electricity meters.2 -
My post has developed into something I did not envisage at all. On Page 5 pochase answered my question. Octopus had advised me that my electric meter was approaching the end of ifs certification date and wanted to install both an electric and a gas Smart Meter.
Pochase very helpfully provided the information that my particular electric meter does not reach the end of its certification date for another ten years yet.
On Page 6 further information demonstrated that there did not seem to be a similar 'System' of Certification dates for gas meters.
I had the answer to my question provided by pochase on page 5 and, as mentioned, I did not think my post would develop as it has.
I really am a very satisfied Octopus Energy customer. On this occasion they wanted to install Smart Meters for electricity and gas when , for now, it seems to be unnecessary in that, in the absence of any other electricity/gas meter problems, I am, hopefully, O.K. to keep my existing 'Dumb' meters. This is what I am happy with.
Even so, I have learned a lot on this Forum.

Even so, I have learned a lot on this Forum.I wonder whether the reason why you got the letter could be because the gas meter is actually the issue, but Octopus see there being little point changing the gas meter to a smart one without doing the electricity as well - asp d as the electricity meter was even older, they wrote in connection with that one. We’ll probably never know though! It could just as easily be that your particular meter was incorrectly entered into their system as having an earlier “expiry date” than it does in fact have, so just a simple mistake.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
