New Natwest / RBS / Ulster Bank £200 Switch Incentive
Comments
-
A friend opened , switched and got £200 twice for Natwest and Ulster. (at more or less the same time)
But when he tried to open RBS (about the same time) they said they couldn't offer him an account.
Anyone had similar experiences or can explain?
(I do know, of course, that only one incentive is supposedly received, but we do know their systems aren't robust)0 -
I had similar with RBS. Completed Natwest application and then submitted a RBS application. Seemed to go through ok but then received an email saying I had been rejected for a RBS account.
No issues with Natwest, hoping for my £200 soon
My credit report is very good so I can only think it's the two applications in quick succession.1 -
It is just their web site having a wobble today, multiple pages are 404Archergirl said:I tried to apply for the Ulster bank switch, I have the other 2, but I think they may have stopped it, when I click the link it's just a blank page......Doh, must have been to slow0 -
Seems I've been caught by this two. I did NatWest as the last of the trio as I'd had one of their incentives last time around, so viewed it as the least likely to pay out. Had no issues with RBS and Ulster, but rejected for the NatWest account.Maguirex said:I had similar with RBS. Completed Natwest application and then submitted a RBS application. I am dubious that this is the reason (two applications in quick succession), in the early days several people posted that they had received all three incentives (including me) and had applied either simultaneously or in quick succession.@masonic said:

The terms of the switcher offer (all three banks have identical switcher T&Cs) do not preclude having received an incentive from another of the three post February 14th. The disqualification is for having received an incentive prior to Feb 14th 2023 (since 2017).
I would ask why the rejection, you have both had accounts rejected rather than the incentive.
In the case of @Maguirex there is no obvious answer, it is unusual; many of us have opened a dozen or more current accounts, without problems.
In the case of @masonic you may have got away with it with the other two as from what you've said you were not eligible for any incentive, maybe it was pique from NatWest not to even let you have an account.0 -

The Natwest account would have been my 6th new account opened in the past 3 months, 5th from the group, 3rd from Natwest (the other two were credit cards). I think it is unlikely that I would have been turned down for an account because I had benefited from a Natwest incentive in 2018. More likely it is because I have been opening too many accounts recently.I recall in the more distant past being rejected for a BoS current account after opening 3 Halifax current accounts. I just had to wait a few months. Others were able to get 3 of each on the same day with no trouble.2 -
Just an update to say that I've had the Ulster bonus today, despite having had bonuses from both NatWest and RBS accounts in the last few months (and despite both of those accounts still being open). I'm amazed (but happy) that they don't check. It took about 3.5 weeks in total. Chalk up another treble.

I've also received the RBS £200 switch offer today.
Despite having received a NatWest bonus previously.
Now I just have to decide whether to attempt Ulster. My credit reports have taken a hit recently with multiple applications, it's difficult to know when to stop!1 -

re. should you try others (Ulster) it depends on how significant your credit report is at the moment, i.e are you anticipating taking out a loan or mortgage? As I understand it credit checks disappear after 12-24 months.
Minimizing the credit available to you by turning down overdraft facilities when applying, helps to mitigate the risk of being turned down.2 -
There's little lost in trying and failing. Just one more search against Equifax, which will become fairly meaningless after 6 months. When you start encountering issues, then you'd need to back off for a while as I shall now do.ccdorset said:I've also received the RBS £200 switch offer today.
