  • "You can earn 5% cashback however you like to shop. In store or for home delivery."
From their website, wasn't that difficult to find!
but excluding delivery companies, like Deliveroo (from earlier on the same web page)

Doesn't answer the tesco express/sainsburys local etc

Whether you do your shopping at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda or Aldi. Or if you shop at Morrisons, Lidl, Waitrose or the Co-op. These are just some of the shops likely to be included.

The qualifying stores may vary from time to time based on how they’re registered with VISA. And not all supermarket locations in a chain may qualify.

    from the T&C

    6. We decide whether to pay cashback based on how the retailer or the goods you are buying from that retailer are categorised by VISA. Retailers are categorised by VISA based on the type of things they sell. We use these categories to work out whether you can earn cashback on a transaction, because we will only pay out for the two categories specifically used for ‘Grocery stores and Supermarkets’ and ‘Convenience Store’ transactions. We don’t control how a retailer or store is categorised. For this reason transactions at some stores won’t qualify for cashback, even if the transaction otherwise looks eligible. We have provided a list of some of the stores where you could earn cashback on our website, as detailed in condition 5, but this list may change from time to time

yougov.finance might be a good indication of how the spending is categorized, except it locks up when I try to filter only my nationwide account spending.
  • So far, I have used my NW Visa Debit Card at a Tesco Express and Morrisons.

Today I have used the M&S Scan & Shop app and paid for items, from the food hall, via Apple Pay in-app. This appears as “M&S Outlet” in Apple Wallet.

Having used the M&S app previously, with my Halifax Visa Debit Card, it showed on my Halifax bank statement as M&S Scan & Shop and categorised as Grocery Stores, Supermarkets (see screenshot below). Whether Nationwide categorise M&S purchases as a grocery store/supermarket remains to be seen.

Hopefully I will receive a text message from Nationwide advising me on the cashback earned to date as I have an Asda groceries order being delivered tomorrow for approximately £75 - Asda claim the full amount the day before delivery (initially shown as pending) and any items missing on the day get credited back to your debit card 3-5 days later.

"Our current account members can now earn up to £10 a month at a wide range of supermarkets and convenience stores."

Seems to imply it is a max of £10 per member, not account.
  • How to view your cashback

You can view the cashback you've earned online using our Banking app or Internet Bank. Or you can check your paper statement.

Remember, you'll get your cashback within 6 weeks of the end of each calendar month. So it won't be there immediately.

If we have your mobile number and you earn over £3 cashback per month, we'll text you to let you know the cashback has been paid into your account.

Each calendar month, we’ll work out what cashback you’ve earned and pay it into your Nationwide current account, up to a maximum of £10 per card.

Anyone know where on the app you can find cashback so far, as I have been unable to spot where it is. Maybe they only display  it at the end of each month.

Don't think there's a rolling total, just a statement entry when it's paid after the month-end.
