Nationwide 5% cashback on supermarket spending
Comments
-
I have a Barclaycard which pays 2% cashback on Supermarket shopping, I've had it for years. Some time back I tried to find out exactly which shops were included, I was hoping they might have a list.
I called and asked 'what qualifies as a supermarket'. The guy on the other end proceeded to explain to me what a supermarket was, in the style of Airplane (the film) - 'well it's a large building with aisles that sells food'.....
After that I didn't bother to try to find out any more, although I believe they do include M&S3 -
Is it based purely on MCC? I recall Chase's 3% cashback on Amazon purchases not working via Curve, even though Curve passes through the MCC.Vortigern said:Is there a way to see the MCC that is used by a specific store? Does it ever appear on a receipt? I used to have a Capital One credit card and could see the MCC by clicking on a transaction in the online statement.
I think we'd need an MCC of 5411 to be sure of the cashback.
Does anybody have any MCC to store name combinations they could share?0 -
MCC is the category, (which incidentally Curve did pass through), whereas the Chase Amazon offer relied on the specific MID (Merchant ID) which isn't passed through, as the Merchant (as far as the client is concerned) in a Curve transaction, is Curve.AmityNeon said:

Exactly. We don't know whether Nationwide is restricting solely by MCC, or also by Merchant Name, all of which form part of Merchant Data Requirements.k_man said:

The T&C's specifically refer to the category (and 2 only) applied by VISA, so it is unlikely they would use the ID.AmityNeon said:

Don’t know If this has been mentioned yet but a quick “ heads up” for anybody intending to max out their spending by the end of each month.
Nationwide are billing me 2 days later over this weekend and 1 day later during the week, i.e spend in Waitrose on Sat 18th and statement is showing as spent on 20th and spend on Thur 16th shows on statement as spent on 17th.

How do you know what type of fuel it is?Katiehound said:Already suggested: buy some gift cards in the supermarket to increase your spend this month., then spend them when the offer has finished, or for example buy Tesco gift card and go buy their fuel with it (but needs to be a manned petrol station I think.) I also think you have to wait up to 48 hours for the card to be active
They can also be used for fuel, excluding Esso fuel, when paid for at the kiosk.

Type of fuel? Diesel
I am talking about buying fuel at a Tesco forecourt- it's their own 'brand'.
All the ones I use are Tesco brand.
But just to confirm it has to be a manned forecourt, so no use at many after 10pm when it is card payments onlyBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Some Esso fuel stations have Tesco Express outlets attached, fuel and store purchases attract Clubcard points. I think the gift card exclusion applies to these outlets.Katiehound said:
