Nationwide 5% cashback on supermarket spending

I'd be almost as surprised if B&M or Home Bargains would be coded as supermarkets but others with experience of, say, using a NatWest reward credit card in those places could hazard a better guess.
Personally I prefer the certainty of 1% if there is doubt about the 5%.

None of them are on the list. Current account cashback offer | Cost of living | Nationwide
Halfway down, click on the list for other stores.
My other half is frustrated by the lack of Home Bargains.
We've had no problem hitting the £200 mark anyway, and unfortunately I may need to start paying for the shopping myself, to build up cashback on my account as well.....1 -
With the Tesco gift cards people are mentioning, are these in the store or do you buy online at Tesco website? I looked today in our Tesco Extra and they don't sell any Tesco gift cards just all the other companies.0

Yes definitely no Tesco, as I was surprised as you'd think they would want customers to buy their gift cards. They had all the other ones that they sell on their website but no Tesco's instore. I've got 2 other Tesco stores within a 15min drive, so I might try those.0

... Kind and helpful @Nebulous2 there's me thinking illogically that there might be some logic behind thisNebulous2 said:dealyboy said:Do you think Wilko (pet food), B&M (food) and Home Bargains (food) would be included? otherwise I'm losing! I would otherwise be using my Chase card.

We MSE'ers are not mainstream people are we? It is a bit like chickenfeed though isn't it.There is some logic (it is based on how the transaction is categorised when you make a debit card purchase) but that doesn't mean it isn't an ill thought through promotion by Nationwide. If the aim is to help people with the cost of living, then it is potentially a PR disaster to exclude the likes of B&M, but include Fortnum & Mason and other 'upmarket' retailers. Along with the vagueness about whether cashback will or won't be paid for the ones actually listed. How on earth this approach got signed off by management is beyond me, someone should have asked the question "Doesn't this look really bad?", to which the reply should have been "Yes, let's try something different".Nice thought, but terrible implementation.4 -
The question is whether Nationwide management is incompetent or just cynical.
”People will use their debit cards and we won’t have to pay all of them”3
